Beginning Monday, July 26, 2021, you might receive a notification or see a banner in Google Drive (web) letting you know about security changes on certain files. Google will begin enforcing a security update to Google Drive. 

This change helps to make non-Google files (Microsoft Word, PDFs, etc.) that are shared prior to 2017 more secure. Google files (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) will not be impacted. The email sent by Google will include a link to view a list of impacted files you own or manage in Google Drive (My Drive/Shared Drive). If your files are not being linked from anywhere or are no longer needed, there is no action required.

To avoid broken links, file owners should update Google Drive links on their websites and shared resources before September 13.
