Bus Accident Memorial Scholarships and Matching Gift Offer

April 25, 2014

Two memorial scholarships have been established at Humboldt State in honor of the admissions counselor and two alumni chaperones who perished in the April 10 bus accident.

The new scholarships will support low-income, first generation college students. The Arthur Arzola Memorial Scholarship honors the admissions counselor who worked passionately to help students get a college education. The Michael Myvette and Mattison Haywood Memorial Scholarship honors the recently engaged alumni couple who were chaperones on the trip.

All three were deeply committed to expanding access to higher education.

Those who give to either or both scholarship funds can double the impact of their generosity today and tomorrow (April 24-25). The HSU Advancement Foundation will match gifts made to either scholarship fund on those days. The Foundation will also give $5 per attendee at Friday’s Dance of the Century. Up to $20,000 has been pledged for this.
