Avoid HSU landline calls to cell phones abroad!

September 23, 2014

Calls from HSU landlines – your desk phones - to cell phones overseas can result in large phone bills to your department. Recent international calls from HSU landlines to cell phones have resulted in charges for a single call in excess of $1,000! These charges occur because cellphone operators apply what's called Mobile Termination Rates (MTR) to these calls; in fact, this is now those operators’ dominant source of revenue.

Until now, ITS has been absorbing these additional costs. However, because the MTR charges on HSU’s phone bill have escalated significantly in recent months, we must now pass the costs on to the departments from which the calls originated.

There are ways to avoid getting hit with these extra charges. Read more about Mobile Termination Rates
