CSU Web Accessibility for Skillport Starting on July 1st, 2016

June 30, 2016

The Chancellor’s Office is excited to roll out a web accessibility page integrated with our learning management system, Skillport. This page will improve our login process by providing easy activation of web accessibility in Skillport.

What is web accessibility?

Web accessibility is the implementation of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and W3C compliance standards. Skillsoft software functions with several assistive technologies, which are any electronic or information technologies that allow individuals with disabilities to utilize information on a computer that they would not be able to access otherwise.

How does it work?

The web accessibility page will enable Skillport's compatibility with assistive technologies, such as screen reader software (a screen reader is software that converts onscreen text to speech and is often used by individuals with a visual impairment).

After users login through their training portal, a web accessibility page will appear directing users to enable web accessibility for the Skillport site:

How do I enable web accessibility?

For those that would like to enable web accessibility they will need to check BOTH boxes “enable web accessibility” and “remember my selection” followed by clicking the Enter button to direct them to the Skillport site.

How do I enter the site if I don’t need web accessibility?

For those that do not need web accessibility enabled, selecting “Remember my selection” and clicking Enter will allow them to enter the site as usual.

By checking “remember my selection” it will only direct the user once to the web accessibility page and bypass this page upon further logins as long as they use the same computer/browser.

When will this be available?

The web accessibly page will be launched on Friday, July 1, 2016.

What should the campus do to prepare?

Please communicate this information to all your campus employees, provide them with instructions on how to enable/disable web accessibility on the Skillport site and inform them this will go live on July 1st. It is important to have those supporting assistive technologies on your campus to be aware of the upgrade along with your Help Desk support in case there are questions that come in during the transition.

Systemwide Professional development in conjunction with Accessibility Technology Initiatives and Identity Management at the Chancellor’s Office are committed to provide web accessibility for the Skillport site. We would like to thank everyone who assisted on making this possible. Special thanks to Eugene and the team at Fullerton for testing and programming.
