New Interim Dean for SPF, Steve Karp
I am pleased to announce that Steve Karp has been appointed the Interim Dean for Research and Sponsored Programs, effective July 6, 2016.
Steve has served as the Executive Director of the Sponsored Programs Foundation (SPF) since January of 2011, and continues to lead SPF in serving the pre-award and post-award needs of HSU. From 2005-2010, Steve served as the Associate Director of the Northern California Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Humboldt State University. Steve’s primary focus has been the building of a strong and customer service focused organization to increase proposal submissions to a wide range of research, scholarly and creative opportunities; to develop processes and practices that enhance data-tracking and management of awards; and expand HSU’s outreach to other stakeholders, including other CSUs and institutions of higher learning, and community and industry partners.
Steve possesses a rich background in the technology industry, where he worked in finance for several high tech firms, including Apple and Viacom. Steve received his B.S. in Economics from California Polytechnic State University and his M.S. in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. In addition, Steve has been actively involved with the Auxiliary Organizations Association (AOA) for the past few years. The members that make up the Auxiliary Organizations Association (AOA) are the auxiliaries of the 23 campuses in the California State University (CSU) system. Steve is currently serving as 2016 Chair of the Research Administrators Committee (RAC), a Sub-group of AOA.
Please join me in welcoming Steve to his new role at HSU. I am looking forward to working with Steve to enhance the scholarly and research opportunities for the faculty and students of HSU.
