Women’s Soccer Ninth in This Week’s United Soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer West Region Rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo.---  The Humboldt State women’s soccer team is ninth in this week’s United soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer West Region Rankings.  Humboldt State, under the guidance of head coach Grant Landy, is 2-1-1 after going 1-1 this past weekend in its two matches in Oregon.

 This past weekend, Humboldt State started its weekend with a 4-1 victory over Central Washington in Monmouth, Ore.  Kendal Spencer scored the match’s first two goals.  The first one came off an assist from Kelsey Bess and the second one from Clara Lenihan.  The Lumberjacks’ final two goals came from Brooke Weese and Bess with Maya Davis, Julia Humphreys, Baylee Groom and Spencer assisting on those goals.  HSU finished its weekend losing 1-0 at Western Oregon despite out-shooting the Wolves 11-9.

 Spencer leads the team with her three goals, one assist and seven points.  Other Lumberjacks have scored a goal this season are Bess, Lenihan and Weese.  Seven different ‘Jacks have recorded assists in Spencer, Bess, Lenihan, Davis, Groom, Humphreys and Poppy Cartledge.  Alexis Aguilar has posted a 0.49 goals against average with 14 saves and a 0.875 saves percentage with one shutout. 

 Humboldt State will return to the pitch this weekend with a pair of matches in the Bay Area.  The ‘Jacks will face Menlo College this Thursday, September 16 at 1pm in Atherton, Calif.  They will conclude their road trip this Saturday, September 18 at 4:30pm in Hayward, Calif., for a match with Holy Names at Pioneer Stadium on the campus of Cal State East Bay. 

 Three of the teams from the West Region are ranked nationally in the United Soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Top 25 in Western Washington (eighth), Sonoma State (12) and Point Loma (22).  Seattle Pacific is receiving votes.
