Humboldt State’s Jamey Harris Named to CCAA’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee

ARCATA, Calif.---  As announced by the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Humboldt State’s head men’s and women’s cross country Jamey Harris has been named to the conference’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. 

 “I'm honored and excited to serve on this committee,” said Harris.  “I think it's very much needed and I hope we will be effective in taking actions that will be impactful within the conference and on all of our campuses.”

Humboldt State’s Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La.---The All-Academic Teams for the 2020 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Track and Field seasons were announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  Both the Humboldt State University men’s and women’s track and field teams received this honor.

There were 149 different women’s programs and 114 men’s programs honored for their academic excellence.

Four Lumberjacks Named to 2019-20 NABC Honors Court; Men’s Basketball Earn Team Excellence Awards

As announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today, four members of the 2019-20 Humboldt State University Men’s Basketball Team were named to the NABC Honors Court.  As a team, the Lumberjacks were recognized as one of the institutions to earn the Eighth Annual Team Academic Excellence Award, created by the NABC Committee on Academics.

Amelia Wagoner, Humboldt State’s NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

Humboldt State University women’s crew member, Amelia Wagoner, is the university’s nominee for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.  Wagoner is one of a record 605 female college athletes nominated for this prestigious award.

Rooted in Title IX, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to recognize graduating female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers. 

Five Members of the Humboldt State University Crew Team Earn GNAC FAR Scholar-Athlete Honors

Five Humboldt State University student-athletes were named recipients of the ninth annual Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Faculty Athletic Representative's Scholar-Athlete Award, presented by Barnes and Noble College.  There was a total of a record 322 GNAC student-athletes represented on this year's list.

Five members of the 2019-20 Humboldt State University women’s crew team received the GNAC Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) Scholar-Athlete Award. These five Lumberjacks are Marjorie Johnson, Emma Modrick, Natalie Pinzon, Sophie Reich and Hannah Shapiro.

Thirty-nine Lumberjacks Named to 2019-20 CCAA Spring All-Academic Team

Thirty-nine members of the Humboldt State University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field and softball teams were named to the 2019-20 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Spring All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office today. 

Nine Lumberjacks Named to 2019-20 CCAA Winter All-Academic Team

ARCATA, Calif.---  Nine members of the Humboldt State University men’s and women’s basketball teams were named to the 2019-20 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Winter All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office today.  The CCAA sponsors men’s and women’s basketball during the winter season.

Celebration of Life for Frank Cheek Service to be Held June 27

ARCATA, Calif.---The Celebration of Life for Frank Cheek will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 beginning at 2pm at the Arcata First Baptist Church in Arcata, California.  The service will be limited to 100 people. There will also be an overflow area in the church gym for another 100 people. 

Please remember to stay at least six feet from others and that face coverings are mandatory.

If you are attending the service, please wear your favorite Humboldt State University or Arcata High School gear.  For example, sweats, sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc.

Humboldt State Athletics Accepting Hall of Fame Nominations

ARCATA, Calif. – Nominations are now being accepted for the Humboldt State Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2020.
 
Nominees must have excelled in intercollegiate athletics during their HSU careers, with participation completed through the 2014-15 academic year. The Hall of Fame committee will determine the final selection.
 
Worthy candidates will be honored in male and female categories, at a minimum. Other possible inductees include former coaches, athletics staff members and student-athletes from previous eras who may have been overlooked.
 

Lumberjacks Continue to Excel in the Classroom

 

ARCATA, Calif..---  This past Spring 2020 semester saw the Humboldt State Lumberjack Student-Athletes excel in the classroom as they posted a department grade point average of 3.36. These student-athletes also logged 4500 hours in community service this past academic year. Forty-nine student-athletes were named Presidential Scholars for achieving at least a 3.85 or higher grade point average in 12 graduated units.  Another forty-seven student-athletes were named to the Dean's list for posting a 3.50 or higher grade point average.
