 BASKETBALL TIP-OFF CELEBRATION IS HERE

Humboldt State Department of Athletics will hold a celebration recognizing the start of the Lumberjack basketball seasons on Monday, November 1.  Doors will open at 6pm with the festivities to begin at 6:30pm.  This will be your chance to meet the Lumberjack men’s and women’s basketball teams, win some prizes and get some free food.

 MEN’S SOCCER LOOKING TO CLINCH FIRST EVER CCAA PLAY-OFF BERTH

The Lumberjacks started their weekend with a 2-1 heartbreaking loss at Cal Poly Pomona.  HSU scored the match’s first goal in the eighth minute when Alex Lopez connected on a free kick from Dylan Tovani.  The Broncos scored their two goals in the final 12 minutes of the match while Adrian Gallardo had seven saves in goal for the ‘Jacks. On Sunday, Humboldt State lost 3-0 to No. 8 Cal State Los Angeles. The Lumberjacks (10-3-2, 4-4-2 CCAA) are in fifth place with one match left in the regular season.  The top six teams in the CCAA regular season standings at the end of Thursday’s final matches will receive a berth to the CCAA Soccer Championships.

 WOMEN’S SOCCER GOES 1-1 IN WEEKEND TRIP TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Humboldt State women’s soccer team started its weekend with a 1-0 victory at Cal Poly Pomona.  Clara Lenihan scored the game-winner in the 75th minute while Marisol Camargo had six saves in her first collegiate shutout. The ‘Jacks finished the weekend with a 1-0 loss to Cal State Los Angeles.  Marisol Camargo had eight saves in goal for the ‘Jacks as she finished the weekend with 14 saves and allowed just one goal.  HSU is now 4-9-4 overall and 1-7-2 in the CCAA.

 VOLLEYBALL ENDS FOUR-MATCH ROAD TRIP THIS WEEK

After going 0-2 to start their four-match road trip, Humboldt State’s volleyball team will end its four-match road trip with a pair of matches in the Valley.  HSU will be at Chico State (Fri., Nov. 5 at 5pm) and Stanislaus State (Sat., Nov. 6 at 5pm).  Last week, HSU lost in three sets (24-26, 18-25, 20-25 at Cal State Monterey Bay with Hannah Cantrell leading the way with 12 kills and three total blocks.  On Saturday, the ‘Jacks lost in three at SF State (10-25, 12-25, 16-25) with Cantrell leading the way with eight kills for the Lumberjacks (3014, 2-12 CCAA).

 CROSS COUNTRY GEARING UP FOR REGIONALS

Humboldt State men’s and women’s cross country teams have been preparing for the NCAA Division II West Regionals since the CCAA Championships.  At the CCAA Championships on October 23, Saedy Williamson and Rosa Granados earned all-conference honors by placing eighth and tenth in the women’s 6K race.  The Lumberjack women finished in sixth place while the men finished in ninth.  The regionals will take place this Saturday, November 6 at Ash Creek Preserve on the campus of Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore.  The women’s 6K race will begin at 10am with the men’s 10K race to follow at 11:15am.

 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL VICTORIOUS IN EXHIBITION GAME

All five starters scored in double digits to lead the way for the Humboldt State Lumberjacks in their 75-67 exhibition win over the visiting Southern Oregon Raiders this past Friday.  Jadence Clifton paced HSU with 14 points while Julia Ima and Madison Parry each had 13 points.  Ashley Taylor Peralta added 12 points and Sharon Roldan had 10 points.  HSU will open up the regular season in Seattle, Wash., when the 'Jacks face Western Washington at 1pm on November 12.

 CAMARGO AND LOPEZ THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACKS’ STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

A pair of Humboldt State soccer players are this week’s Humboldt State Lumberjacks’ Student-Athletes of the Week in Marisol Camargo and Alex Lopez.

 Camargo in her first two collegiate starts recorded 14 saves in HSU’s 1-1 weekend.  She started the weekend posting her first shutouts with six saves in the Lumberjacks’ 1-0 win at Cal Poly Pomona.  The junior goalkeeper finished the weekend recording eight saves in HSU’s 1-0 loss at Cal State Los Angeles.

 Lopez scored the Lumberjacks’ goal in their 2-1 loss to Cal Poly Pomona.  The freshman forward scored off a Dylan Tovani free kick in the eighth minute. This was his fourth goal of the season.
