 MEN’S SOCCER RECORDS MOST WINS SINCE 2006

Humboldt State men’s soccer team improved to 10-2-2 overall and 4-2-2 in the CCAA after two dramatic wins this past weekend at College Creek Field.  The ‘Jacks started the weekend with a 2-1 overtime win over Sonoma State on Friday evening.  Marco Silveira scored the Lumberjacks’ first goal in the first half off a ball from Devin Hauenstein.  Daniel Adeyeye scored the golden goal off a ball from Yushi Kato just 46 seconds into the overtime period.  Sunday, HSU defeated SF State 1-0 on Dylan Tovani’s last minute goal with just 58 seconds left in the match.  The ‘Jacks are in fifth place in the CCAA with three matches left in the regular season.  The top six teams in the CCAA regular season standings on November 5 will receive a berth to the CCAA Soccer Championships.

 GRANADOS AND WILLIAMSON EARN ALL-CCAA HONORS

Both Saedy Williamson and Rosa Granados earned All-CCAA honors on Saturday by placing in the top 15 in the CCAA Cross Country Championships. Williamson finished in eighth with her time of 21:17.7 while Granados finished in tenth with her time of 21:23 in the 6K race.  The ‘Jacks finished in sixth place as a team.  Over on the men’s side, Humboldt State finished in ninth place with Ian Rusk leading the way with his 32nd place time of 25:51.6 in the 8K race.

 WOMEN’S SOCCER FINISHES SEASON WITH 2-1 HEARTBREAKING LOSS

The Lumberjack women’s soccer team finished their home part of the regular season this past weekend.  The ‘Jacks stated the weekend with a 4-0 loss to No. 23 Sonoma State on Thursday.  HSU lost its last home match of the regular season on Sunday, 2-1 to SF State.  Kendal Spencer scored the Lumberjacks’ goal on a penalty kick in the 30th minute.  Alexis Aguilar had six saves in goal for Humboldt State (3-8-4, 0-6-2 CCAA).

 VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO MATCHES TO NATIONALLY RANKED OPPONENTS

Humboldt State started its weekend with a three-set loss to No. 22 Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday evening (21-25, 11-25, 22-25).  Lindsey McLaughlin had nine kills to lead the ‘Jacks while Carla Crespo had 13 digs. No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino defeated the ‘Jacks in three (23-25, 11-25, 18-25) on Saturday evening.  Anna Hospoldar paced the ‘Jacks with her eight kills while Carla Crespo had 24 digs for the ‘Jacks (3-12, 2-10 CCAA)

 BASKETBALL CELEBRATION SET FOR NOVEMBER 1

Humboldt State Department of Athletics will hold a celebration recognizing the start of the Lumberjack basketball seasons.  Doors will open at 6pm with the festivities to begin at 6:30pm.  This will be your chance to meet the Lumberjack men’s and women’s basketball teams, win some prizes and get some free food.

 WILLIAMSON, GALLARDO AND TOVANI THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Two members of the Humboldt State women’s cross country team and a member of Lumberjack men’s soccer players are this week’s Humboldt State Student-Athletes of the Week in Saedy Williamson, Rosa Granados and Dylan Tovani.

 Williamson earned All-CCAA honors by finishing in eighth place at the CCAA Championships. She ran a 21:17.7 in the 6K race to help lead the ‘Jacks to a sixth-place finish.

 Granados, just like her teammate, earned All-CCAA honors as she finished in tenth place at the CCAA’s.  The junior runner ran a 21:23 in the 6K for the Green and Gold.

 Tovani scored the Lumberjacks’ game-winning goal in their 1-0 win over SF State on Senior Day on Sunday. He scored with just 58 seconds left in the match.  The junior defender has played a key role in the Lumberjacks’ defense that has posted seven shutouts and a 0.55 goals against average.
