 DAM WORTH IT, DIG PINK AND SENIOR DAY MATCHES HIGHLIGHT UPCOMING WEEK FOR LUMBERJACK ATHLETICS

Three of Humboldt State Lumberjack fall teams will be at home this weekend while the Lumberjacks’ cross country teams will compete at the CCAA Championships.  This Thursday, October 21, HSU’s volleyball team will host Cal Poly Pomona at 5pm.  Then on Friday, October 22, the Lumberjack women’s and men’s soccer teams will host Sonoma State at 12;30pm and 3pm respectively.  All three of these matches will be the Lumberjacks’ Dam Worth It Matches in support of Mental Awareness.  On the morning of Saturday, October 23, HSU’s cross country teams will be in San Marcos, Calif., competing in the CCAA Championships.  That evening in Lumberjack Arena, HSU’s volleyball team will host Cal State San Bernardino at 7pm in their Dig Pink Match.  The following day on Sunday, October 24, both of Humboldt State women’s and men’s soccer teams will host San Francisco State in their Senior Day Matches.  Women’s match scheduled to begin at 11:30am with the men’s match  to follow at 2pm.

 JACKS FINISH THE WEEK 2-0

Humboldt State men’s soccer team started its weekend with a 2-1 come-from-behind win at Stanislaus State on Thursday evening.  The ‘Jacks were trailing with 24 minutes remaining when Yushi Kato scored the tying goal.  Four minutes later, Ramiro Rosas scored the game-winner on a free kick.  Adrian Gallardo recorded five saves in goal for HSU.  On Sunday, HSU defeated Cal State East Bay 6-1 behind Marco Silveira’s goal and three assists.  Also scoring goals for the ‘Jacks were Daniel Adeyeye, Devin Hauenstein, Edgar Castaneda and Rosas.  Gallardo had four saves in goal for HSU who is now 8-2-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the CCAA.

 WOMEN’S SOCCER BATTLES IN TWO CONFERENCE ROAD MATCHES

The Lumberjack women’s soccer team started their weekend with a 2-0 loss at Stanislaus State.  The ‘Jacks out-shot the Warriors 22-11 including 9-5 in shot on goal attempts.  On Sunday, HSU lost 1-0 to Cal State East Bay despite out-shooting the Pioneers 11-8 including 4-3 in shots on goal.  Humboldt State is now 3-6-4 overall and 0-4-2 in the CCAA.

 CROSS COUNTRY BACK IN ACTION AT CCAA’S

Humboldt State women’s and men’s cross country teams will be back in action this Saturday, October 23 when they participate in the CCAA Championships in San Marcos, Calif.  The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 9am with the men’s race  to follow at 10am.  You can watch both races at www.ccaanetwork.com/hsu.

 HOSPODAR AND MCLAUGHLIN LEAD HSU IN TWO CCAA MATCHES WITH SONOMA STATE

Anna Hospodar and Lindsey McLaughlin led the way for HSU in their four-set loss to Sonoma State at home on Wednesday.  Hospodar had 16 kills while McLaughlin added 13 for the ‘Jacks.  Nicole Yakushenok added 17 digs and Riley White chipped in 16.  On Saturday, Humboldt State (3-10, 2-8 CCAA) lost in three sets to Sonoma State.  McLaughlin had seven kills while Katie Nall added six and Hannah Cantrell recorded a team high five total blocks.

 BASKETBALL SEASON AROUND THE CORNER

The start of Humboldt State men’s and women’s basketball seasons are just a couple of weeks away.  The Lumberjack women will host Southern Oregon in an exhibition game on Friday, October 29 at 5:30pm.  They will open up the regular season in Seattle, Wash., taking on Western Washington on November 12.  HSU’s home opener is set for Saturday, November 27 at 2pm, when the ‘Jacks host Dominican.  Humboldt State’s men will have their regular season opener on November 12 in Carson when they face Western Washington. Their home opener is set for Saturday, November 20 at 7pm as the ‘Jacks host Lincoln University, coached by former NBA player Gary Payton. This year, Humboldt State will host the six-team CCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship March 3-5.

 HOSPODAR, SILVEIRA AND GALLARDO THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

A member of the Humboldt State’s volleyball team and a pair of Lumberjack men’s soccer players are this week’s Humboldt State Student-Athletes of the Week in Anna Hospodar, Marco Silveira and Adrian Gallardo. 

 Hospodar started the week with a season high 16 kills and 9 digs in the Lumberjacks’ four-set match with Sonoma State on Wednesday.  She came back on Saturday to record a kill and dig. 

 Silveira started the week recording two shot attempts including one on goal in HSU’s 2-1 come-from-behind win at Stanislaus State.  The senior forward finished the weekend with a goal scored and three assists in the Lumberjacks’ 6-1 win over Cal State East Bay to give him six goals and ten assists for the season.

 Gallardo had five saves including two huge saves in the final minutes in the Lumberjacks’ 2-1 win at Stanislaus State.  Then in the ‘Jacks 6-1 win over Cal State East Bay, Gallardo had four saves in goal.
