 GRANADOS CAPTURES HER SECOND CONSECUTIVE RACE WHILE HSU’S MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM PLACES THIRD AT CHARLES BOWLES INVITE

The Humboldt State men’s cross country team finished in third place out of 14 teams at the 46th Annual Charles Bowles Invitational this past Saturday in Salem< Oregon.  The ‘Jacks were the top non-Division I team at the invitational and were led by Carson Smith with his 10th place finish in the 8k race.  For the second consecutive race, Rosa Granados paced HSU with her first-place finish in the 5K invite.  As a team, the Lumberjack women finished in sixth place out of 14 teams. 

 LUMBERJACKS’ SHUTOUT AND UNBEATEN STREAK SNAPPED AT SEVEN

Humboldt State men’s soccer team saw their seven-match shutout and unbeaten streak snapped with a 1-0 loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday.  The seven-match shutout streak tied a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) record which the ‘Jacks set in their 0-0 double overtime tie on Friday to Cal State San Marcos.  Adrian Gallardo had two saves for HSU on Friday for his sixth shutout of the season.  In Sunday’s match, Gallardo had four saves for Humboldt State (6-1-1, 0-1-1 CCAA).

 WOMEN’S SOCCER PLAY IN CONSECUTIVE DOUBLE OVERTIME TIES

The Lumberjack women’s soccer teams played in back to back double overtime matches in their conference opening weekend.  On Friday, HSU played to a scoreless tie with Cal State San Marcos. Alexis Aguilar recorded her third shutout of the season by posting three saves.  HSU tied 1-1 with Cal State San Bernardino with Aguilar posting eight saves in goal for the ‘Jacks.  Baylee Groom scored the Lumberjacks’ goal off a ball from Maya Davis in the first half. Humboldt State is now 3-2-4 on the season and 0-0-2 in the CCAA

 VOLLEYBALL BATTLES IN THREE-SET LOSS TO SF STATE

Humboldt State (3-6, 2-4 CCAA) battled in its three-set loss (25-27, 18-25, 22-25) to the SF State Gators this past Thursday evening at Lumberjack Arena.  Lindsay McLaughlin had nine kills for HSU to go with her two blocks to lead the ‘Jacks.  Hannah Cantrell and Nora Thompson each had seven kills while Cantrell added two blocks.  Thompson also had two service aces while Riley Tishlarich had 16 assists.  Kaitlyn Patterson added 16 digs for the ‘Jacks.

 HALL OF FAME CEREMONY THIS FRIDAY EVENING

Humboldt State Athletics’ Hall of Fame Ceremony/Dinner will take place this Friday, October 8 at Blue Lake Casino in Blue Lake, Calif.  You can watch the ceremony on-line beginning at 7pm on www.ccaanetwork.com/hsu for free.  This year the ‘Jacks will be inducting the Class of 2020 and 2021.  The Class of 2020 includes Laura Champ, Heather Johnston, Scott Peters, Lisa Petty, Lyndon Rowells and Chrissy Stalf.  The Class of 2021 includes Nicholas Bawden, Bridget Berg, Dan Collen, Katie Harris, Staci Self, Anetra Torres, Zack Weinberger and the 1976 Men’s Cross Country Team.

 GRANADOS AND SMITH ARE THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

A pair of Humboldt State Lumberjack cross country runners in Rosa Granados and Carson Smith are this week’s Humboldt State Lumberjacks’ Student-Athletes of the Week. 

 Granados captured her second consecutive race on Saturday by winning the 46th Annual Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Oregon.  The junior runner ran a 18:11.3 in the 5K race to lead the ‘Jacks to a sixth-place finish in the 14-team invitational.

 Smith paced HSU’s men to a third-place finish with his tenth-place time of 24:59.4 in the 8K race.  The Lumberjacks were the top non-Division I team as the University of Washington captured the invite followed by the University of Portland.
