 NO. 13 LUMBERJACKS RECORD SIXTH STRAIGHT SHUTOUT IN 1-0 VICTORY OVER CHICO STATE

For the first time in school history, Humboldt State men’s soccer team (6-0) has opened its season with six straight shutouts after the Lumberjacks’ 1-0 win over Chico State this past Saturday at College Creek Field.  This is also the second time since 2017 that the ‘Jacks have posted six straight wins.  Marco Silveira scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute off a cross from Marcus Abdel-Malek.  Adrian Gallardo posted three saves in goal for HSU his fifth shutout of the season. 

 WOMEN’S SOCCER ENTERS CCAA SEASON 3-2-2

Humboldt State women’s soccer team is now 3-2-2 after the Lumberjacks’ 1-1 double overtime tie with Chico State yesterday afternoon at Chico State.  The Wildcats were leading until the 88th minute when Clara Lenihan scored the game-tying goal off a ball from Baylee Groom.  Alexis Aguilar recorded a season high eight saves in goal for the ‘Jacks.

 LUMBERJACKS BATTLE IN A PAIR OF THREE-SET LOSSES

The Lumberjack volleyball team lost a pair of three-set matches this past weekend at Lumberjack Arena to Stanislaus State and Chico State. On Friday, HSU lost to Stanislaus State (25-13, 25-14, 26-24) with Hannah Cantrell and Nora Thompson leading the way each with six kills.  Then on Saturday evening, the ‘Jacks lost to Chico State (25-24, 25-16, 25-18).  Katie Nall and Lindsey McLaughlin paced HSU with six kills each while McLaughlin recorded two service aces and three total blocks for the ‘Jacks (3-5, 1-3 CCAA).

 CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS BACK IN ACTION THIS FRIDAY IN OREGON

After having a week off since hosting the Jim Hunt Invitational, both of the Lumberjack men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to the course running in the 46th Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational at Bush’s Pasture Park in Salem, Oregon.  The invite will begin at 9:30am with the men’s 8K and to follow at 10:20am with the women’s 5K.  HSU’s teams each are coming off a second- place finish at the Jim Hunt Invitational.  Rosa Granados paced the women with a first-place finish as she captured the CCAA Runner of the Week.  Shane Burton paced the men with his fifth-place finish at the Jim Hunt Invitational.

 FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR, HSU MEN’S SOCCER TEAM UNITED SOCCER COACHES TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD RECIPIENTS

Humboldt State men’s soccer team were named 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award recipients.  This is the third year in a row, that the Lumberjacks have received this honor.  During the 2020-21 academic year, three players received academic honors.  Motoki Sato was the 2020 CCAA Championship Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete.  Dylan Tovani and Devin Hauenstein were named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team.

 AGUILAR AND SILVEIRA ARE THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

A pair of Humboldt State Lumberjack soccer players in Alexis Aguilar and Marco Silveira are this week’s Humboldt State Lumberjack Student-Athletes of the Week. 

 Alexis Aguilar posted a season high eight saves in 110 minutes in the Lumberjacks’ 1-1 double overtime tie with Chico State this past Saturday at College Creek Field.  She faced 17 shots including nine on goal in leading HSU to its second tie of the season.  For the season, she has a 0.875 saves percentage with a 0.55 goals against average.

 Marco Silveira scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 56th minute on a ball from Marcus Abdel-Malek in HSU’s 1-0 win over Chico State.  This was Silveira’s team leading fifth goal of the season and his team high third game-winning goal.  For the season, the senior forward has scored five goals and assisted on six goals.
