‘JACKS SAAC CANNED FOOD GOOD DRIVE TO RUN FEB. 21-27

Cal Poly Humboldt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s (SAAC) Annual Canned Food Good Drive will run this week Feb. 21-27. All donated items will be donated to Cal Poly Humboldt’s OhSNAP program. For more information, email atheltics@humboldt.edu

 BLACK OUT NIGHT THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24 IN LUMBERJACK ARENA

This Thursday, February 24 when the Cal Poly Humboldt men’s and women’s basketball teams host Cal State Los Angeles in conference doubleheader will be Black Out Night in recognition of Black History Month.  Come and get pumped up with members of the UMQUA Center for Pan-African Excellence in the Redwood Bowl prior to the gamess.  The rally will start at 4pm.  Create a sign take into the game, listen to some music and create a lasting memory at the photo booth and enjoy a Down South style dinner. Everyone will receive a FREE special edition Black Out Game t-shirt to wear at the game.

 

 ‘JACKS START OFF CCAA PLAY 3-1

Cal Poly Humboldt’s softball team went 3-1 to begin conference play this weekend in Carson.  The “Jacks won the opener 5-3 on Friday afternoon, but lost the night cap 13-3 in five innings.  Humboldt came back on Saturday to sweep the doubleheader 9-6 and 7-2 to take the weekend series.  The ‘Jacks are 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA.  Vanessa Saltos led the ‘Jacks with her four home runs, eight runs batted in and seven runs scored.  Micaela Harris scored five runs, had a stolen base and hit a home run for the ‘Jacks. Karen Di Dio went 2-0 with two complete game victories while striking out five and walking one in 14 innings pitched. Gaige Garcia went 1-1 with one complete game victory.

 

HUMBOLDT NOW AT 6-11 IN CCAA PLAY

After dropping both of their final road games of the regular season, the Cal Poly Humboldt women’s basketball team is 7-14 overall and 6-11 in the CCAA.  The ‘Jacks lost 68-57 at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday.  Madison Parry recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Citlaly Davalos added 15 points for Humboldt.  The Lumberjacks lost 59-56 at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday evening despite Parry’s 21 points.  Kaz Parks added 16 points for the ‘Jacks, who will host their final games of the regular season this weekend on Thursday and Saturday, February 24 and 26.

 

‘JACKS NOW AT 10-14 OVERALL AFTER ROAD TRIP

Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team is 10-14 overall and 4-14 in the CCAA after going 0-2 in their final road trip of the regular season.  Humboldt lost 87-49 at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday with Jaden Edwards leading the ‘Jacks with 17 points.  AJ Sims added 11 points and Bryce Mitchell chipped in 10 points for Humboldt.  The Lumberjacks lost 81-71 at No. 6 Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday despite four players scoring in double digits.  AJ Sims had a season high 19 points while Cam Timmons recorded his second double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Jaden Edwards chipped in 14 points for the Lumberjacks while Amari Green added 12 points. Humboldt will host their final games of the regular season this Thursday and Saturday, February 24 and 26.

 

SENIOR NIGHT THIS SATURDAY FOR THE ‘JACKS

This Saturday, February 26 is Senior Night for both of the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjack men’s and women’s basketball teams.  The ‘Jacks will entertain nationally ranked Cal State San Marcos with the women’s game to start at 5:30pm and to follow at 7:30pm the men’s game.  Prior to the women’s game, Humboldt will recognize Sharon Roldan.  Then prior to the men’s game, Humboldt will recognize Amari Green.

 

TRACK AND FIELD TO BEGIN THEIR REGULAR SEASON AT CHICO MULTI-EVENTS CLASSIC

After hosting the Green & Gold on Saturday, February 12 at Redwood Bowl, both of the Lumberjack men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Chico, Calif., to participate in the Chico Multi-Event Classic at Chico State University on February 23-24.  The ‘Jacks will be sending their student-athletes to compete in the heptathlon and decathlon. After the Chico Multi-Event Classic, the ‘Jacks will participate in the Kim Duyst Invitational, March 4-5 in Turlock, Calif.

 

HUMBOLDT CREW BEGINS ON MARCH 12
Cal Poly Humboldt women's crew team will begin their season on March 12 at the Sacramento State Invitational.  This will be the first of six regattas that the 'Jacks will participate in prior to the GNAC Rowing Championships on May 14.  Humboldt will host its regatta on March 26 at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.
 
CCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT COMING TO LUMBERJACK ARENA, MARCH 3-5

The 2021-22 CCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament will be coming to Cal Poly Humboldt’s Lumberjack Arena, March 3-5. The top six teams at the end of the regular season in both the women’s and men’s basketball standings based on percentage points will receive a bid to the CCAA Basketball Championship Tournament.  Games will begin with the quarterfinal round on March 3 (women’s games at 12pm and 2:30pm followed by the men’s games at 5;30pm and 8pm).  They will continue with the semi-final round on March 4 (women’s games at 12pm and 2:30pm followed by the men’s games at 5;30pm and 8pm).  The championship games are set for March 5 with the women’s game to tip-off at 5pm and the men’s game to follow at 8pm.  The winners of the men’s and women’s tournament will receive the CCAA’s automatic berth to the 2021-22 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament.

 

42’ JACKS NAMED TO 2021 CCAA FALL ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

Forty-two Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks’ student-athletes were named to the 2021 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll Team on Friday.  The forty-two were the most by any of the 12-members of the CCAA. Cal Poly Humboldt sponsors five conference sports in the fall in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.  For the complete release, click here.

 

CAL POLY HUMBOLDT ADDS TRIATHLON AS 12TH NCAA DIVISION II SPORT

Cal Poly Humboldt and USA Triathlon announced on February 16, the school will become the 40th program to offer women's triathlon at the varsity level. Humboldt will field a team starting in the 2022-23 athletic season.
 

The commitment by Humboldt to become the 40th school is an important milestone in triathlon's journey to becoming an NCAA Championship sport. Deemed an NCAA Emerging Sport for Women in 2014, triathlon has now met the 10-year window to demonstrate sustainability and success at the NCAA varsity level. Triathlon has a few more steps to take on its way to being fully managed by the NCAA as a championship event, including committee, council, divisional and budget approvals. SALTOS AND HARRIS ARE THIS WEEK'S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
This week's Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks' Student-Athletes are a pair of Lumberjack softball players in Vanessa Saltos and Micaela Harris.

 Saltos had five hits in 10 at bats for a .500 batting average in the ‘Jacks 3-1 series win at Cal State Dominguez Hills. She hit four home runs including three in Humboldt’s 9-6 game three win on Saturday.  The sophomore infielder drove in eight runs and scored seven hits and also had a double for the ‘Jacks.

 Harris had six hits in 11 at bats for a .545 batting average in the Lumberjacks’ series win at Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The senior outfielder/catcher scored five runs, had a solo home run, hit two doubles and drove in two runs for the ‘Jacks.  Harris had a .667 on-base percentage with her tenth stolen base.
