HUMBOLDT STATE CROSS COUNTRY TO HOST INVITE THIS SATURDAY AT BAYWOOD GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB

The Lumberjack men’s and women’s cross country team will begin their season hosting the Humboldt State Invitational on Saturday, September 18 at Baywood Golf & Country Club in Arcata, Calif.  The invitational is scheduled to begin at 8:30am. 

LUMBERJACK MEN’S SOCCER CONTINUES WINNING WAYS

Humboldt State Lumberjacks men’s soccer team improved to 4-0 with two more shutouts this past weekend in Hayward, Calif.  This is the first time since 1989 that the ‘Jacks have posted four consecutive shutouts.  HSU started the week with a 4-0 shutout over Hawaii Pacific on Friday night. Dylan Tovani, Devin Hauenstein, Edgar Castaneda and Alejandro Lopez all scored goals for HSU.  Daniel Adeyeye and Marco Silveira each had two assists while Nicolas Herrera Land, Edgar Castaneda and Hauenstein each had one.

HSU finished the week with a 3-0 win over Holy Names on Sunday afternoon.  Lopez, Silveira and Yushi Kato each scored a goal for the ‘Jacks.  Adding assists were Silveira who had two while Adrian Gallardo and Adeyeye each had one.  Gallardo had two saves in goal for HSU for his fourth shutout of the season.

 HSU VOLLEYBALL DUO OF LOVING AND CRESPO LEAD ‘JACKS TO 2-2 WEEKEND

Humboldt State’s volleyball team went 2-2 the Lumberjacks’ opening weekend of the 2021 season.  The ‘Jacks started the weekend with a four-set loss (23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-25) loss to Chico State.  Lenox Loving had 10 kills while Carla Crespo had 13 digs for HSU.  They came back and defeated Dominican in four (25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-13) paced by Loving’s 16 kills and 15 digs. Crespo had 25 digs and five service aces.

 On Saturday, HSU started with a four-set loss to Holy Names (26-24, 19-25, 24-26, 17-25) despite Loving’s 10 kills and 18 digs.  Crespo had 21 digs.  The ‘Jacks finished with a four-set win over Academy of Art (25-21, 21-25, 25-10, 25-10) behind Loving’s 23 kills and 13 digs. Crespo had 16 digs while Riley White had four service aces. 

 WOMEN’S SOCCER FINISH WEEKEND 1-1

The 2-1-1 Lumberjacks went 1-1 this weekend in Oregon.  HSU started the weekend with a 4-1 win over Central Washington behind Kendal Spencer’s two goals.  Also scoring goals for the ‘Jacks were Brooke Weese and Kelsey Bess.  Spencer along with Bess and Maya Davis, Baylee Groom and Julia Humphreys each had assists.  Humboldt State had its three-match unbeaten streak snapped on Sunday with a 1-0 loss at Western Oregon.

 CONGRATS TO HSU’S 91 CCAA ALL-ACADEMIC HONOREES

This past week, Humboldt State University’s President Dr. Tom Jackson and Executive Director of Athletics/Recreational Sports Cooper Jones released a video congratulating the 91 Humboldt State Student-Athletes that were named to the 2020-21 CCAA All-Academic Team.  For the video, click here.

 CLASS OF 2020/2021 HUMBOLDT STATE ATHLETICS’ HALL OF FAME CEREMONY SET FOR OCTOBER 8

The Humboldt State University Department of Athletics’ Hall of Fame Ceremony is set for Friday, October 8 at the Sapphire Palace Event Center at the Blue Casino & Hotel in Blue Lake, Calif.  The evening will begin at 6pm with social hour and to continue at 7pm with dinner and the ceremony.

 HSU will be inducting 13 Lumberjacks and one team into the Hall of Fame.  The Class of 2020 will be represented by Laura Champ, Heather Johnston, Scott Peters, Lisa Petty, Lyndon Rowells and Chrissy Stalf.  The Class of 2021 inductees are Nicholas Bawden, Bridget Berg, Dan Collen, Katie Harris, Staci Self, Anetra Torres, Zack Weinberger and the 1976 Men’s Cross Country Team.  For more information on the Humboldt State Athletics’ Hall of Fame, go to https://hsujacks.com/honors/humboldt-state-athletics-hall-of-fame.

 CRESPO, LOVING, GALLARDO AND LOPEZ ARE THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

This week’s Humboldt State Lumberjack student-athletes are volleyball players Carla Crespo and Lenox Loving along with men’s soccer players Adrian Gallardo and Alejandro Lopez.

 Crespo led HSU's defense in the Lumberjacks' 2-2 weekend.  She started the weekend with 13 digs and two service aces against Chico State and followed that with 25 digs and five service aces in HSU's win over Dominican on Friday.  Then on Saturday, Crespo had 21 digs and one ace against Holy Names and 16 digs and two aces in the Lumberjacks' win over Academy of Art.

 Loving finished the Lumberjacks' 2-2 weekend recording three straight double-doubles with double digit  performances in kills and digs.  The outside hitter had 16 kills and 15 digs in HSU's four-set win over Dominican.  On Saturday, she came back with a 10-kill, 18-dig effort against Holy Names.  Loving finished with a 23-kills, 13-digs with a .512 hitting percentage in the Lumberjacks' four-set win over Academy of Art.

 Gallardo posted back to back shutouts in HSU's 2-0 weekend in Hayward.  The Lumberjack goalkeeper faced five shots (none on goal) in the Lumberjacks' 4-0 win over Hawaii Pacific on Friday evening.  He finished the weekend recording two saves in HSU's 3-0 win over Holy Names.  For the season, he has a 0.00 goals against average with a 1.000 saves percentage and 11 saves.

 Lopez scored two goals in the Lumberjacks' 2-0 weekend.  In Friday's 4-0 win over Hawaii Pacific on Friday, he scored the Lumberjacks' last goal in the 77th minute on a ball from Marco Silveira and Daniel Adeyeye.  He finished the weekend scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 51st minute on a ball from Silveira for his second game-winner of the season.
