SOFTBALL BEGINS CCAA PLAY THIS WEEKEND

Cal Poly Humboldt’s softball team will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this weekend with a four-game series in Carson, Calif., against Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The ‘Jacks are coming off a 4-4 road trip as they split their four non-conference doubleheaders.  Humboldt split with Holy Names, UC Colorado Springs, Regis and MSU-Denver.  The ‘Jacks have a team batting average of .357 and a 6.85 earned run average.  Four ‘Jacks are hitting over .400 in Micaela Harris (.500), Izzy Starr (.452), Katelyn Dendas (.400) and JoAna Mullins (.400).  Starr has driven in a team leading 16 runs while hitting a team high three home runs.  Harris leads Humboldt with her nine stolen bases, four triples and 13 runs scored.  Karen Di Dio and Gaige Garcia lead the team with their two victories.  Di Dio has posted a team low earned run average of 3.57 with her team high 16 strikeouts.
 
‘JACKS HEAD TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FOR FINAL ROAD TRIP

The Lumberjacks women’s basketball team will travel to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area for their final road trip of the regular season this week.  Humboldt will be at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday and Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday.  The ‘Jacks are in eighth place, two games out of the sixth and final spot for the six-team CCAA Championship Tournament.  Humboldt went 0-2 last week with a 60-53 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills and a 64-49 loss to Cal State East Bay. 
 
HUMBOLDT BACK ON THE ROAD FOR THE FINAL TIME IN 2021-22
Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team will be on the road for the final time this regular season this coming week.  The ‘Jacks will be at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday and nationally ranked Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday.  Humboldt is in eleventh place, four games out of the sixth and final spot for the six-team CCAA Championship Tournament. The ‘Jacks went 0-2 last week with a 68-65 loss in overtime to Cal State Dominguez Hills and an 86-84 triple overtime loss to Cal State East Bay.
 
HANO MOVES UP TOP TEN LIST TO HIGHLIGHT GREEN & GOLD

Joy Hano captured the 100-meter hurdles with her personal best time of 15.35 to highlight the Green and Gold for the ‘Jacks on Saturday.  She is in ninth place on Humboldt’s top ten list.  The College of Redwoods, several Lumberjack Alumni and current ‘Jacks comprised the field in the Green & Gold.  Here’s a list of some of the Lumberjacks’ first place finishers:  Valerie Heywood (300 meter), Grace Kasberger (javelin), Kaela Dennert-Frederick (hammer), Delaena Montes (discus, shot put), Travis Allen (60meter hurdles), Malachi Arthur (300), Ricardo Torres (3200), Jonathan Sweeney (pole vault), Jared Del Real (shot put) and Jason Trent (hammer).  The ‘Jacks will begin the regular season in two weeks when they travel to Chico to participate in the two-day Chico Multi-Event Classic on Feb. 23 and 24.  The following week, Humboldt will be in Turlock to participate in the Kim Duyst Invitational on March 4-5.

 

HUMBOLDT CREW BEGINS ON MARCH 12

Cal Poly Humboldt women’s crew team will begin their season on March 12 at the Sacramento State Invitational.  This will be the first of six regattas that the ‘Jacks will participate in prior to the GNAC Rowing Championships on May 14.  Humboldt will host its regatta on March 26 at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center.

EDWARDS AND PARRY ARE THIS WEEK'S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
This week's Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks' Student-Athletes are a men’s basketball player Jaden Edwards and women’s basketball player Madison Parry.

 Edwards averaged 22.0 points and 13.5 rebounds in Humboldt’s two home games last week.  He shot 43.9% from the field and went eight-for-ten from the line.  The junior guard/forward also had five assists and one blocked shot while recording his ninth and tenth double-double games.

 Parry averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds for the ‘Jacks at home this week.  She shot .667 from three-point range and went five-for-six from the line.  The freshman guard/forward blocked five shots and recorded five steals and dished out five assists.
