TRACK AND FIELD’S ANNUAL GREEN & GOLD TO START 2022 FOR THE ‘JACKS

The 2022 Green & Gold Meet scheduled for this Saturday, February 12 will begin the 2022 season for the Cal Poly Humboldt Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 9am with the the discus. ‘JACKS FINISH 4-4 ON SEASON OPENING ROAD TRIP

Cal Poly Humboldt’s softball team went 4-4 on the ‘Jacks season opening eight-game road trip. Humboldt split all four series with Holy Names, UC-Colorado Springs, Regis and MSU-Denver.  The ‘Jacks defeated Holy Names 17-5 (5), UC-Colorado Springs (8-4), Regis (12-11) and MSU-Denver (6-3).  Humboldt had a team batting average of .357 with four players hitting over .400 in Micaela Harris (.500), Izzy Starr (.452), Katelyn Dendas (.400) and JoAna Mullins (.400).  Starr drove in 16 runs and hit a team high three home run. Harris was nine-for-nine in stolen base attempts and scored a team leading 13 runs with a team high four triples.  The pitching staff was led by Karen Di Dio and Gaige Garcia each with two wins.  Di Dio has a team low 3.66 earned run average with a team high 16 strikeouts.

 

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STILL ALIVE FOR POST-SEASON

Humboldt women’s basketball team is 7-10 overall and 6-7 in the CCAA.  The ‘Jacks are in seventh place, just one game out of the sixth and final spot for the CCAA Basketball Championships which are March 3-5 at Cal Poly Humboldt.  Humboldt is a game out of fifth place which is held by Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles.  The ‘Jacks are averaging 62.8 points per game while giving up 63.8 points per game. They are coming off a 1-1 road trip in which Humboldt defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 70-59 and lost to SF State 54-53 on a last second three.  Humboldt will host Cal State Dominguez Hills and No. 24 Cal State East Bay this Thursday and Saturday, February 10 and 12.  It will be Dam Worth It (Mental Health Awareness Night) along with the ‘Jacks Big Game on Thursday. Then on Saturday, it’ll be the Lumberjacks’ Annual Think Pink Night in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness. Tip-off for both contests is set for 5:30pm in Lumberjack Arena.

 

MEN’S BASKETBALL THREE GAMES OUT WITH THREE WEEKS REMAINING

Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team is 10-10 overall and 4-10 in the CCAA after going 0-2 on the road this past weekend.  Humboldt lost 85-65 at Cal State Monterey Bay and 77-62 at SF State this weekend. The ‘Jacks are in eleventh place but are still alive for the six-team CCAA Basketball Championships, March 3-5 at Lumberjack Arena on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt. Cal Poly Humboldt is three games out of the sixth spot which is heled by SF State.  The Lumberjacks will host Cal State Dominguez Hill and Cal State East Bay this Thursday and Saturday, February 10 and 12.  Thursday’s game will be Dam Worth It (Mental Health Awareness Night) along with being the Lumberjacks’ Big Game.

HARRIS AND STARR ARE THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

This week’s Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks’ Student-Athletes are a pair of Lumberjack softball players in Micaela Harris and Izzy Starr. 

 

Harris went 16-for-32 in the Lumberjacks’ eight games this week.  She had four triples, one home run and two doubles while driving in six runs and scoring 13 times.  The senior catcher/outfielder had a .906 slugging percentage with a .452 on-base percentage.  She also went a perfect nine-for-nine in stolen bases to give her 74 for her career.  Harris is a perfect 38-for-38 in stolen bases since 2020. 

 

Starr had 14 hits in 31 at bats in Humboldt’s road trip.  She hit three home runs and had three doubles while driving in 16 runs.  The sophomore catcher/third baseman scored five runs and posted a .839 slugging percentage and a .452 on-base percentage.  She also was one-for-one in stolen bases for the ‘Jacks.
