 JACKS OFF TO FIRST 5-0 START SINCE 2011-12

Humboldt State men’s basketball team is off to its first 5-0 since 2011-12 after going 2-0 this week at home.  The ‘Jacks started the week with a

75-67 win over Western Oregon on Tuesday night.  Jaden Edwards paced HSU with 18 points and nine rebounds.  Will Johnson added 16 points and nine assists while Thomas Melonja chipped in 10 points.  HSU continued its winning ways with a 74-68 win over Dominican on Saturday.  Edwards paced HSU with 19 points while Johnson added 16 points.  Three other “Jacks scored in double digits in Cam Timmons and Melonja each with 12 points while AJ Sims added 10 points for the Lumberjacks.

 LUMBERJACKS PICK UP FIRST W OF 2021-22 SEASON

Humboldt State women’s basketball team improved to 1-3 on the season with a 66-49 win over Dominican on Saturday.  HSU outscored the Penguins 21-10 in the third quarter  to key its first win of the season.  Madison Parry recorded her first double-double of the season with 22 points and 13 rebounds.  Kaz Parks scored 17 points and had seven assists for the ‘Jacks while Julia Iman chipped in 10 points.

 GIVING TUESDAY, THIS TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 30

Humboldt State Athletics will be holding their Annual Giving Tuesday this Tuesday, November 30.   You can donate to any of the Lumberjacks’ 11 intercollegiate athletic teams by going to https://www.hsujacks.com/givingtuesday.

 LACE UP NIGHTS THIS THURSDAY AND SATURDAY AT LUMBERJACK ARENA

Humboldt State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be hosting Lace Up Night games at all four of the Lumberjack women’s and men’s basketball games this Thursday and Saturday, December 2 and 4.    Lumberjack players will wear gold shoelaces during the designated games to raise awareness for pediatric cancer.  Fans will have the opportunity to purchase gold shoelaces for $5 with $4 going directly to help children with pediatric cancer. This is put on by Go4TheGoal.

 PARKS, PARRY, EDWARDS AND JOHNSON ARE THIS WEEK’S LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

This week’s Humboldt State Lumberjacks’ Student-Athletes of the Week are women’s basketball players Kaz Parks and Madison Parry along with men’s basketball players Jaden Edwards and Will Johnson.

 Parks scored 17 points while dishing out a season high seven assists and grabbing a season high nine rebounds in HSU’s 66-49 win over Dominican on Saturday.  She went six-for13 from the field including connecting on four of her nine attempts from beyond the arc in 35 minutes.

 Parry recorded her first double-double of the season by scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the Lumberjacks’ win on Saturday.  The freshman forward dished out three assists, blocked two shots and had three steals for the ‘Jacks.  She went nine-for-18 from the field while connecting on two of her attempts from beyond the arc and making both of her attempts from the charity stripe.

 Edwards averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in HSU’s 2-0 week with victories over Western Oregon and Dominican.  He shot 43% from the field including 45% from three’s and 88.9% from the line.  The junior transfer had two assists, blocked a shot while recording four steals in HSU’s two wins.

 Johnson averaged 16 points, 6.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 rebounds in the Lumberjacks’ two games.  The Lumberjack guard shot 60% from the field and connected on all four of his attempts from the line.
