 MEN’S BASKETBALL OFF TO A 3-0 START

Humboldt State men’s basketball team is off to a 3-0 start after a thrilling 81-78 come-from-behind win over Lincoln (Calif.) in the Lumberjacks’ home opener on Saturday.  This is the Lumberjacks’ first 3-0 start since 2015-16 when they finished the season with a 21-9 record.  The ‘Jacks trailed by seven points with 2:39 left in the game, but finished the game on a 12-5 to defeat the Oaklanders 81-78.  Jaden Edwards paced the ‘Jacks with his game high 22 points.  Three other players scored in double digits for HSU in Thomas Melonja (12 points), Amari Green (10 points) and AJ Sims (10 points).

 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FOURTH QUARTER RALLY FALLS SHORT

For their second game in a row, the Lumberjacks saw their end of the game rally fall short this time in a 72-70 loss at Dominican (Calif.).  The ‘Jacks trailed by nine points (58-49) with 8:15 left in the game,  HSU outscored the Penguins 22-12, but could not get any closer as Humboldt State lost 72-70.  Julia Iman paced the ‘Jacks with her first double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.  Mariah Barraza added 13 points off the bench for HSU with Ashley Taylor Peralta and Madison Parry each scoring 11 points for the ‘Jacks (0-3).

 LUMBERJACK DUO NAMED TO ALL-CCAA VOLLEYBALL TEAM

Humboldt State’s Carla Crespo and Lindsey McLaughlin were named to the 2021 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Volleyball Team. This was Crespo’s and McLaughlin’s first time being named to the All-CCAA Honorable Mention Team.

 TAYLOR PERALTA AND EDWARDS ARE THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACKS’ STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

This week’s Humboldt State Lumberjacks’ Student-Athletes of the Week are a pair of Lumberjack basketball players in Ashley Taylor Peralta and Jaden Edwards.

 Taylor Peralta scored 11 points and dished out a season high four assists in HSU’s two-point loss at Dominican this past Wednesday.  She went four-for-six from the field and connected on three of her five attempts from the charity stripe.  The junior transfer also had five rebounds and a steal.

 Edwards scored a season high 22 points including what proved to be the game-winner with seven seconds left on the clock in the Lumberjacks’ 81-78 come-from-behind win over Lincoln University.  Edwards went nine-for-17 from the field, connected on one of his two attempts from beyond the arc while going four-for-five from the line.
