 MEN’S SOCCER POST BACK TO BACK SHUTOUTS 2-0 WEEKEND IN UTAH

The Humboldt State Lumberjacks went 2-0 this past weekend keyed by their stellar defense and the offensive play of Marco Silveira.  The ‘Jacks posted back to back shutouts for the first time since 2017 with a 2-0 blanking of Westminster and 4-0 shutout over Northwest Nazarene.  Silveira had the game-winning goal off a ball from Nicolas Herrera Land and assisted on Daniel Adeyeye’s goal in HSU’s 2-0 win over Westminster.  The senior forward assisted on the game-winning goal by Alejandro Lopez and had an unassisted goal in the Lumberjacks’ 4-0 win over Northwest Nazarene.

 HSU will return to the pitch for a pair of matches September 10 and 12 on the campus of Cal State East Bay in Hayward.  The ‘Jacks will face Hawai’i Pacific at 7pm on September 10 and Holy Names at 2pm on September 12.  Both matches can be seen on the CCAA Network at www.ccaanetwork.hsu.

 WOMEN’S SOCCER FINISH HOME WEEKEND 1-0-1

Humboldt State went 1-0-1 in the Lumberjacks opening weekend of the 2021 season.  The ‘Jacks started the weekend with a 0-0 double overtime tie with Dominican University on Friday. Alexis Aguilar posted six saves en route to the shutout for the ‘Jacks.  They finished the weekend with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Hawai’i Hilo on Sunday afternoon.  Aguilar posted three saves in the Lumberjack win.  Clara Lenihan connected on a ball from Poppy Cartledge for HSU’s first goal while Kendal Spencer scored the game-winner in the 74th minute.

 The ‘Jacks will return to the pitch for a pair of matches on September 10 and 12 in Monmouth, Oregon on the campus of Western Oregon University.  HSU will face Central Washington on Friday, September 10 and Western Oregon on Saturday, September 12.  Both matches are scheduled to start at noon.  VOLLEYBALL TO BEGIN 2021 THIS WEEKEND IN ROHNERT PARK

Humboldt State’s volleyball team will commence their 2021 season in Rohnert Park, Calif., for four non-conference matches in the Seawolf/Gator Classic on the campus of Sonoma State University.  The Lumberjacks will face Chico State (10am) and Dominican (5pm) on Friday, September 10.  The next day (Saturday, September 11), HSU will face Holy Names (10am) and Academy of Art (5pm).  All four matches can be seen on the CCAA Network at www.ccaanetwork/hsu.

 CROSS COUNTRY PREPARING FOR OPENING INVITE ON SEPTEMBER 18

The Lumberjack men’s and women’s cross country team will begin their season hosting the Humboldt State Invitational on Saturday, September 18 at Baywood Golf & Country Club in Arcata, Calif.  The invitational is scheduled to begin at 8:30am. 

 CLASS OF 2020/2021 HUMBOLDT STATE ATHLETICS’ HALL OF FAME CEREMONY SET FOR OCTOBER 8

The Humboldt State University Department of Athletics’ Hall of Fame Ceremony is set for Friday, October 8 at the Sapphire Palace Event Center at the Blue Casino & Hotel in Blue Lake, Calif.  The evening will begin at 6pm with social hour and to continue at 7pm with dinner and the ceremony.

 HSU will be inducting 13 Lumberjacks and one team into the Hall of Fame.  The Class of 2020 will be represented by Laura Champ, Heather Johnston, Scott Peters, Lisa Petty, Lyndon Rowells and Chrissy Stalf.  The Class of 2021 inductees are Nicholas Bawden, Bridget Berg, Dan Collen, Katie Harris, Staci Self, Anetra Torres, Zack Weinberger and the 1976 Men’s Cross Country Team.  For more information on the Humboldt State Athletics’ Hall of Fame, go to https://hsujacks.com/honors/humboldt-state-athletics-hall-of-fame.

 SILVEIRA, GONZALEZ AND THIS WEEK’S HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACK STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

This week’s Humboldt State Lumberjack Student-Athletes of the Week are Marco Silveira, Christian Gonzalez and Alexis Aguilar.

Silveira scored two goals and had two assists in HSU men’s soccer 2-0  Labor Day weekend in Utah.  He played a part of four of the Lumberjacks’ six goals this weekend including both game-winners. 

 Gonzalez played a major role in HSU’s back to back shutouts in the Lumberjacks’ two matches in Salt Lake City this past weekend.  On Thursday, HSU blanked Westminster 2-0 and came back on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Northwest Nazarene. 

 guilar recorded nine saves and a 0.45 goals against average in HSU’s 1-0-1 weekend.  She also had one shutout and a 900 saves percentage.  The junior goalkeeper started the weekend posting her first shutout of the season with six saves in HSU’s scoreless double overtime tie with Dominican.  Aguilar finished the weekend with three saves in the Lumberjacks’ 2-1 win over Hawai’i Hilo.
