Time Off to Vote in Statewide Elections

October 27, 2026

Dear Campus Colleagues,

The 2026 General Election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. The California State University supports employees’ ability to exercise their right to vote.

Under California Elections Code sections 14000–14001 and applicable collective bargaining agreements, employees may take enough time off to vote so that, together with available non-work hours, they have sufficient time to cast their ballot. Employees may take up to two hours without loss of pay.

Unless you and your supervisor agree otherwise, voting time should be taken at the beginning or end of your regular work shift. If you expect to need time off to vote, notify your appropriate administrator or supervisor at least two working days before Election Day. Please follow campus procedures for requesting and recording this time.

You may also vote by mail, vote early, or use another option available through your county elections office.

For more information, see the California Elections Code and the state’s Time Off to Vote notice.
