Temporary Fix to Campus Servers

May 6, 2022

Today at 3:45 pm, ITS and Facilities Management must make an emergency fix to the  temporary battery that keeps our servers running in the event of power failures. It is very unlikely that any problems will arise due to this fix.

We are sensitive to the fact that it is the last day of classes and take special care during this time of year to prevent any changes that could interrupt instruction. This fix is being performed now because it will prevent more widespread failure should the battery system fail during an unlikely loss of power during finals week.

If an outage does occur, the campus may lose access to the internet for a short time. Additional services such as OBI, webforms, and department specific services could be unavailable for a longer period of time as services are restored. Because many of our services are available in the cloud as part of our focus on disaster continuity, everyone would be able to log in to MyHumboldt and access gmail, canvas, and zoom, among other services.

We appreciate the quick actions of Facilities and IT staff to detect and develop a solution to sustain services to campus.

Again: it is our belief that no outage will be experienced. We apologize if this does cause any disruption to your classes or work.
