Steve St. Onge Named Interim AVP of Student Success

Stephen “Steve” St. Onge, Executive Director of Housing & University Services, has been named the Interim Associate Vice President of Student Success and will be responsible for prioritizing and supporting student success and in charge of collecting data that will inform student services at HSU.

Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management, Steve will collaborate with stakeholders on campus, the local community, and the CSU to ensure that HSU students receive the support and programs they need to be successful. He will also continue overseeing Housing & Residence Life operations, (including the Children’s Center) and will supervise off-campus student services.  

“As the Executive Director of Housing & University Services, Steve has been committed to making sure students thrive here and earn a degree from HSU,” says Interim VP of Enrollment Management Jason Meriwether. “Looking ahead, I know he will be instrumental in our strategy to boost enrollment and retention.” 

Since 2014, Steve has led Housing & Residence Life and the Children’s Center and has served as a deputy coordinator for the campus Title IX office. Before coming to HSU, he was the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management in the State University of New York system.

Steve has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Vermont and earned a Master of Arts in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He earned his Ph.D. at Syracuse University where his dissertation focused on the cognitive and academic impact of learning communities on students. He has also published several articles on learning communities, assessment, and putting developmental theory to practice.
