Starting off National Cybersecurity Awareness Month with Some Good News

October 2, 2018

HSU Information Security recently sent out a "fake phish" message to gauge how many people on campus are still being taken in by the kind of social engineering exercises hackers use all the time to extract privileged information. The results are in, and congratulations! Only half as many of you clicked on the link in the message as the last time this exercise was conducted in February of this year. So thank you for your efforts to help keep campus more secure.

ITS greatly appreciates your time and attention for participating in this exercise, and rest assured that none of your data was ever in danger, even if you did click the link. However, it must be stressed that, while ITS is able to spot and block thousands of these types of attack, it's simply not possible to filter out every attempt. So it's important that everyone on campus is aware of the signs of a phishing attack to keep our defenses up.

Don't get caught by a phish - brush up on your scam-spotting skills with these hints and tips.
