January 20, 2021

ARCATA, Calif.---  Humboldt State’s softball team, under the direction of head coach Shelli Sarchett, recorded their highest grade point average in the last ten years as the Lumberjacks recorded a 3.47 term grade point average this past semester. Of the 20 softball players, eight achieved a 3.85 or higher and five recorded between 3.50 to 3.84.

Overall for the Athletic Department, each team also showed up in the classroom, with ten teams achieving a term team grade point average of 3.00 or higher, and nine posting a term GPA of 3.00+.   Of those programs, women’s basketball (3.58), rowing (3.50) and softball (3.47) each set a ten-year record, recording their highest recorded term GPA.

“So proud of all our HSU Softball Athletes,” said Coach Sarchett. “2020 was not easy to say the least but the whole team continued to work hard and not let a pandemic get in the way of their academic progress!”

The eight softball players that had between a 3.50 and 3.84 grade point average were the most in the department.  58% of the team recorded at least a 3.50 or higher grade point average this past semester.
