Seven Humboldt State Lumberjacks’ Student-Athletes Named to 2020-21 CCAA Winter Academic Honor Roll

As announced this morning, seven members of the Humboldt State men’s and women’s basketball teams were named to the 2020-21 CCAA Winter Academic Honor Roll.  The seven Lumberjack student-athletes to earn this honor were Samantha Caires, Victor Mijas, Kazimierz Parks, Arash Poorsina, Sharon Roldan, Gabyrs Sadaunykas and Katie Schwan.

 Overall 96 CCAA student-athletes earned this honor from the 11 institutions from the CCAA that sponsor men’s and women’s basketball. 

 To earn this honor, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:

1.)   Be of sophomore standing or higher and may include a graduate student

2.)   Own a 3.3 cumulative grade point average or higher, based on most recently completed term at the time of nomination

3.)   Have competed in a conference-sponsored sport in that season (waived for 2020-21, must be on roster in good standing

 Mijas earned this honor for the third time in his career while Poorsina and Sadaunykas were two-time honorees. Caires, Parks, Roldan and Schwan are first-time honorees of the CCAA Winter Academic Honor Roll.

 This past semester, Parks and Roldan were named to the HSU Department of Athletics’ Presidential Scholar List while Mijas was named to the Dean’s List.  Humboldt State’s women’s basketball team, under the guidance of head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson, recorded the highest term grade point average in department history.  The Lumberjack men’s basketball, coached by head coach Tae Norwood, posted their highest term grade point average in a decade.
