Dear Colleagues,

As chair of the campus nominating committee for the awarding of honorary degrees, I invite your nominations for honorary degrees to be conferred at the May 17, 2014 Commencement Ceremonies. Nominations are due to the committee by Friday, November 8, 2013.

The CSU guidelines related to honorary degrees are here (PDF) and the HSU Executive Memorandum guiding the nomination process is here. Please note that the process is confidential, and campus representatives may not contact a prospective nominee to discuss a possible nomination.

Nominations need to include the full name of the nominee, two nomination letters, a brief summary of reasons the degree is deserved, a curriculum vitae or comparable biographical information, and a brief description of the relationship, if any, the nominee has with the campus.

The timeline for the process this year is as follows:

November 8 – Nominations for honorary degrees are due to the campus committee. Please email nominations and supporting documents to Mary Kay Hartman in University Advancement at mkh32@humboldt.edu.

Early December – Recommendations from President Richmond are due for submission to the CSU Board of Trustees.

February 2014 – President Richmond informs recipient(s) of the award and invites them to participate in the 2014 commencement ceremony.

May 17, 2014 – Honorary degree(s) awarded at Commencement Ceremonies.
