Safer Campus Survey

November 9, 2016
Dear Colleagues,
Please announce to your students The Safer Campus Community Project Survey, a campus-wide, anonymous online survey created by the HSU Sexual Assault Prevention Committee.  Students received a link to the survey via email on November 7th and will have until November 18th to complete the survey.
The survey will collect information about students’ experiences with sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, and sexual harassment, as well as barriers to and levels of reporting and knowledge of support services for survivors. The gathering of this data is considered best practice by the US Department of Education and the Department of Justice, indicating a proactive approach to violence prevention on college campuses.
High levels of participation in this survey are needed for an accurate understanding of the scope of sexualized violence HSU students face. We are looking for all students to participate, regardless of whether or not someone has directly experienced these forms of violence. The data collected will enable the Sexual Assault Prevention Committee to assess and revise prevention efforts and responses to violence that are based on our specific campus dynamics.
Below is an example statement about the survey you may announce in class or email to your students.
If you have any questions, or would like further information about the survey, please contact Maxwell Schnurer (707-826-3282 Maxwell.Schnurer@humboldt.edu) or

Sincerely,
Maxwell Schnurer and Kim Berry
Co-chairs of the Sexual Assault Prevention Committee
Example statement about the survey you may read/email to students:
Please check your email and consider taking the Safer Campus Community Project Online Survey which was emailed to students on November 7th, and is available to take through November 18th.  All responses are anonymous; average response time is expected to be 7 minutes. Your participation in this survey is optional.
The survey aims to collect information about the prevalence of sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating/domestic violence, and stalking within our campus community, as well as levels of and barriers to reporting, and awareness of support services for survivors. The survey will ask about your personal experience(s) with violence. All student participation is wanted, whether or not you have directly experienced these forms of violence. By participating in this survey, you will help the Sexual Assault Prevention Committee assess and revise prevention programs and improve University response to these forms of violence.
The survey material is sensitive and may bring up a wide range of emotions. Our Campus Advocate Team, staffed by North Coast Rape Crisis Team, offers excellent support through their 24-hour hotline number: 707-445-2881. If you have any questions or comments about the survey, please contact Maxwell Schnurer (707-826-3282Maxwell.Schnurer@humboldt.edu) or Michael Le (707-826-5489 -Le@humboldt.edu).
