Sabine Postma Named to 2020-21 Academic All-America Women’s Soccer Team, presented by CoSIDA

July 6, 2021

Humboldt State women’s soccer player Sabine Postma was named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer Team, presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as announced this morning.  Postma is the first Humboldt State women’s soccer player to earn this prestigious honor and first Humboldt State student-athlete to earn this since 2017 when Marissa McCay was named to Academic All-America® Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country First Team.

Postma was a three-year letter-winner for the Lumberjacks who graduated this past December with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average. She was a member of the Department of Athletics’ Presidential Scholar List every semester during her intercollegiate career.

The Camas, Wash., native was one of twenty-two of the 33 members of the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women’s Soccer teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 10 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA (including Postma).

The Zoology major was named to the Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer Second Team.  Earlier this spring, Postma was named Humboldt State’s Dr. Hal Charnofsky female recipient.  Along with those honors this academic year, Postma was named the 2020-21 Humboldt State Outstanding Student-Award for Excellence in Intercollegiate Athletics recipient and to the Academic All-District® Women’s Soccer First Team.  Back in December, Postma was named the 2020 CCAA Championship Women’s Scholar-Athlete. Postma was a three-time member of the CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll.

During her career in the Green and Gold, Postma scored four goals and assisted on eleven.  She started in 46 of the 49 games she played in for the Lumberjacks.  Of her four goals, two were game-winners.  She was named to the 2017 All-CCAA Honorable Mention Team.

This past fall, Postma along with teammate Mary Swisher, played an integral role in the women's soccer team's Bracelet for Change with all the profits going to the Humboldt State's African American Center for Academic Excellence.

Postma is the only representative from the CCAA on this year’s Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer Team. She is one of three players from the West Region on this year’s team.  Flagler College’s Sara Sandberg was named the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.

Based on the absence of most fall sports competition, the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Committee revised some rules and procedures for nominating student-athletes this season. Due to the low percentage of games completed this season, the nominees were selected based on career statistics and achievements.
