Humboldt State University takes the recent allegations by employees about University Police Chief Donn Peterson seriously.

As part of our response, the University has retained the OIR Group (Office of Independent Review) to investigate the allegations, complaints, and any related matters. OIR Group is led by some of the nation's leading experts on police practices and oversight. We’re looking forward to working with this established and well-respected law enforcement assessment firm. 

The length of the investigation is unknown at this time but may take several months. The OIR group will provide an independent analysis of the allegations which, in turn, will give the University the information it needs to make a determination on how to move forward successfully.

The safety of our campus community remains our priority, and I am confident in the dedication and abilities of our team within the University Police Department.
