Reminder: Network Upgrades Are Coming Beginning January 21st!

January 14, 2025

Hi Everyone,

As a follow up to the original communication, we wanted to send this friendly reminder to share that as part of the Chancellor’s Office Common Network Initiative, we’ll be upgrading the network equipment across campus. Starting January 21, our Telecommunications and Network Services team, along with Deloitte Consulting, will be replacing aging switches to make our network faster and more reliable. The work is expected to wrap up by February 14.

Here’s what to expect:

  • When:

    • Academic buildings: Work will happen early in the morning before classes begin.

    • Non-academic buildings: Work will take place during regular business hours.

    • We’ll post flyers on building entrances a few days ahead to let you know when your building is scheduled.

  • What’s the impact?

    • Wired connections: A quick blip—less than 30 seconds.

    • Wireless connections: About a 3-minute pause as the access points reboot. Devices should reconnect automatically once things are back online.

    • Zoom: Good news—your meetings will automatically reconnect once the network is back.

    • Phones: Traditional desk phones won’t be affected, but VoIP phones might have a brief hiccup.

We know disruptions can be a hassle, but these upgrades are a big step toward keeping our campus network strong and ready for the future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to operations-tns@humboldt.edu

Best,

Duncan Hughes
