The Recent White House Executive Order

September 25, 2020

This week, we and our higher educational colleagues across the country, became aware of the newly released Executive Order on Combating Race and Sex Stereotyping from the White House.

HSU’s Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (ODEI), like many other offices around campus, has fielded many inquiries and questions of concern about the executive order and its impact on HSU’s operations, services, and priorities. These legitimate worries include and extend beyond ODEI. Diversity and equity shape classroom discussions, curricular planning, student and community programming, policy work, hiring, and campus training. Our deep commitment to social justice and anti-racism is being woven into the fabric of our university. Our ability to conduct training and engage in professional development that challenges white supremacy, racism, and all forms of oppression is essential to this work

At this time, HSU and a number of other campuses are  seeking  guidance from the CSU Chancellor’s Office. This guidance will help us interpret the federal executive order and the associated implications for the state and the 23 campuses of the CSU. When there is new guidance from the CSU system, HSU’s leadership will communicate and collaborate with campus stakeholders to chart a path forward for the campus.
