'Rave Guardian' Personal Safety App
Dear Campus Community,
As we continue into the Fall semester, I invite you to download the Rave Guardian app, a free mobile app that turns your smartphone into a personal safety device and campus resource center.
By downloading the app, you’ll have access to safety features that directly and discretely connect you to the University Police Department (or 911 if off-campus) in an emergency, campus-wide notifications of safety hazards, as well as the ability to submit anonymous tips if you see something suspicious. You can also share your location—even when you don’t have a cell signal.
When you invite friends and family to join your network as your “Guardians” in the app, you can then request one or more of your Guardians to virtually walk with you on or off campus. It’s like having an emergency blue light system and a trusted friend with you at all times.
The Rave Guardian app also features a campus call directory with university contact information as well as a campus content hub. To download the app, simply search “Rave Guardian” in the app store on your mobile device.
If you’d like assistance walking across campus or to your car at night, a uniformed escort is available through the University’s Safety Escort Program. There are also blue light stations—a series of alarms that immediately connect you to a communication center and identify your location with the click of a button—strategically placed throughout campus.
We keep all students and employees updated on any incidents and emergencies on campus by sharing timely “campus advisories” via email and texts. Information about incidents, including reported crimes and locations, that occur on campus can be found in the University’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. The website also includes information about campus security and emergency notifications.
If you have an emergency, contact UPD immediately by calling 911 or (707) 826-5555, or calling extension 5555 from any campus phone.
For more information, including safety tips, online crime reporting, and a campus safety plan, please visit the UPD website at police.humboldt.edu.
Sincerely,
