Rakim Brown Earns D2CCA All-West Region Honors

March 14, 2016

BILLINGS, Mont. – Senior forward Rakim Brown was named to the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association All-West Region Second Team Monday.

Brown led the Lumberjacks in scoring with 19.1 points and rebounding with 7.1 boards per game. The Fresno, Calif., native was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament MVP last week and earned First Team All-CCAA honors.

“Rocky's hard work over the summer months and consistent productive play for our team this season has resulted in many individual awards for his athletic resume,” said Head Coach Steve Kinder. “Winning the CCAA Tournament championship and having Rocky Brown as our No. 1 offensive option was a key to our successful season. Rocky proved he was a prolific scorer and tenacious rebounder as he developed a competitiveness to his game throughout his Lumberjack career.”

He notched a team-leading 11 double-doubles during the 2015-16 campaign and was twice named the CCAA Player of the Week. The highlight of his senior season came at home on March 1 when he scored 33 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the Jacks’ CCAA Tournament first round victory over Cal State Monterey Bay.

Brown was one of four CCAA representatives on the two five-man D2CCA All-West Region Teams. Robert Duncan (Chico State) and Jordan Faison (Cal Poly Pomona) were tabbed to the First Team, and Drew Dyer (UC San Diego) joined Brown on the Second Team.

HSU completed a historic run to the NCAA Tournament and completed its second straight 20-win season Friday. The Green and Gold lost to Western Oregon 82-65 in Monmouth, Ore., in the first round of the West Regionals.
