Preventing Spam and Phishing in Google Calendar
Some campus community members have reported suspicious Google Calendar events, such as “Invoice” or “Account Alert.” These are often phishing attempts that appear because Google may automatically add invitations from unknown senders to your calendar.
What you can do
Do not click links or select "Decline." Declining notifies the sender that your account is active.
Report the event as spam. This removes the event and helps improve our domain filters.
Optional: Adjust your settings. You can set your calendar to only automatically add invitations if the sender is known (e.g., @humboldt.edu addresses or your contacts). Instructions to Report Inappropriate calendar invitations & events
If you choose to limit invitations to "known senders," legitimate external invitations will still reach your email inbox, but they will only appear on your calendar if you manually accept them.
ITS is currently evaluating whether to enable this setting by default for all campus accounts. We are assessing potential impacts to campus workflows to ensure legitimate scheduling is not disrupted.
