Pedestrian Safety and Construction Traffic on Campus

September 10, 2024

Fall is in full swing and it's wonderful to have our campus alive once again. Some things have changed over summer as we make progress on our polytechnic infrastructure projects, including construction of our new Engineering & Technology Building and Energy Research & Sustainability Center, and a remodel of Jenkins Hall.

With this activity, construction related traffic has increased alongside our normal active roads and sidewalks. This semester, there will be several construction trucks at B and 17th streets as we begin excavating portions of the future site of the Engineering & Technology Building. Beginning next semester, Spring 2025, truck traffic will be reduced as the project continues. The University will ensure our contractors are taking every precaution to promote safe conditions. Some examples of this include construction traffic must yield to pedestrians and cyclists, traffic control for entering and exiting trucks, and clearly marked detour routes and closures.

The map below (see attachment) highlights the areas that have increased traffic. If you are in these areas, please be aware, be patient, and be safe with construction or other vehicular traffic.

Thank you for working with us as we transform our campus in the new era as a polytechnic university. For more information about the University’s polytechnic projects, go to humboldt.edu/about/polytechnic/infrastructure-projects.
