Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Welcome to Spring 2022!

January 18, 2022

Dear Campus Community,

Greetings and Happy New Year 2022!

Since the next issue of ODEI Pathways, the monthly newsletter of HSU’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be published in February, we wanted to take this opportunity to welcome all students, staff, and faculty to the Spring Semester 2022.  We are thrilled to work with each of you and our community partners to nurture a safe, affirming, and welcoming environment where everyone can realize their full potential.  If you are new to HSU, we wish you a special welcome!

ODEI leads the visioning and implementation of HSU’s quest for inclusive excellence in alignment with the University’s 2021-2026 Strategic Plan, Future Forward. Through compassionate listening and intentional cross-campus and community collaboration, we strive to transform relationships and policies to shape the future of the most recently minted polytechnic.

We lead our collective journey toward inclusive excellence by implementing our six-pillar framework of inclusive excellence: (1) A safe and welcoming community; (2) Equitable opportunities and outcomes; (3) Strategic partnerships; (4) the development of Intercultural humility; (5) Organizational resources; and 6) Collaborative leadership  and shared accountability. For more information about ODEI programs and activities, please visit our website at https://diversity.humboldt.edu/

Creating and nurturing a safe and inclusive learning, working, and living environment is a shared responsibility. Hence, as we begin the spring semester and the new year 2022, we invite each and every one of us to bring our best and authentic self to HSU and neighboring communities. This means reaching outside our own inner-circles to learn about and appreciate the experiences of others who may be different from ourselves; affirming and celebrating both our differences and similarities; and supporting each other in the pursuit of our respective academic, professional, and personal goals. We are one campus, one community, and our diverse paths lead to one destiny: Inclusive Excellence.

ODEI staff and our community partners are here to support your journey. We invite you to engage in the professional development, training, and other activities that we facilitate. Please make our day by stopping by our office located at Siemens Hall # 215 to say “Hello” and have a conversation with us.

May this spring semester and the New Year 2022 bring you a step closer to realizing your dreams!

Peace,

Dr. Elavie Ndura
Associate Vice President & Campus Diversity Officer
