New Associate Vice President for Human Resources

December 3, 2018

Dear Campus Community,

Please help me welcome David Montoya as the new Associate Vice President for Human Resources.  David will begin with HSU on December 11, 2018.

David Montoya has spent the past ten years serving as an advocate for underrepresented groups in both government and educational settings.  After graduating from UCLA School of Law, he assisted with the Family Law Clinic at the Orange County Legal Aid Society, working mostly with the local Latino/a and Vietnamese communities.  Afterwards, he began collaborating extensively with Native American communities, serving as in-house Attorney for the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, and the Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria.  During this time, David worked on multiple projects including the development of tribal justice systems, the development of tribal educational systems, and building successful businesses.  David has always been a proponent of education, serving as a tutor to UCLA undergraduates in SACNAS, law school students at UC Irvine, and most recently participating in Get Ready Humboldt.

David received his bachelor degree in political science from the University of California Irvine, a master degree in American Indian Studies from University of California Los Angeles and his juris doctor degree from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law.

He is thrilled to be a part of the HSU community and cannot wait to advance the needs of the university through the Human Resources Department.

Vice President for Administration and Finance
