Men’s Soccer Stays at No. 13 in This Week’s National Poll
For the second consecutive week, the Humboldt State men’s soccer team is ranked No. 13 in this week’s United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA Division II Men’s National Poll. This is the first time in the program history that the Lumberjacks have been ranked in the top 25 for consecutive weeks. Humboldt State, under the direction of head coach Fred Jungemann, heads into its opening weekend of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play with a 6-0 record. The ‘Jacks will host Cal State San Marcos (Fri., Oct. 1 at 12:30pm) and Cal State San Bernardino (Sun., Oct. 3 at 11:30am).
The Lumberjacks are one of two teams from the CCAA ranked in the top 25 with the other being Cal Poly Pomona who is No. 25. Humboldt State has started its season with six consecutive shutouts for the first time in school history. The six consecutive wins is the first time since 2017 that HSU has won six matches in a row. The longest streak is seven which was last done during the 1994 season.
HSU is coming off a 1-0 victory over Chico State in a rare non-conference match-up on Sept. 25. Marco Silveira scored the game-winner in the 56th minute on a ball from Marcus Abdel-Malek off a through ball from Dylan Tovani. Adrian Gallardo recorded three saves for his fifth shutout of the season. Silveira has scored a team leading five goals this season which gives him 13 for his career to go with his 20 assists. Gallardo’s five shutouts places him tied for eighth with Drew Ryan (2006) on the Lumberjacks’ single season list in shutouts.
The ‘Jacks are second in the United Soccer Coaches Top 10 NCAA Division II West Region Men’s Poll. Azusa Pacific holds the top spot followed by the ‘Jacks, Seattle Pacific, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Los Angeles. Rounding out the top 10 is Cal State Dominguez Hills, Biola, Simon Fraser, Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Monterey Bay.
