Lumberjacks Finish 21st in NCAA Division II in Community Service Hours
ARCATA, Calif.--- As announced on Thursday on www.helperhelper.com, Humboldt State University Department of Athletics finished 21st in the nation in NCAA Division II in community service hours. The Lumberjacks’ women’s soccer team had the most community service hours in the NCAA Division II among the women’s sports teams.
As a department, the Lumberjacks’ student-athletes volunteered 4,536 hours of community service hours which made an economic impact of $115,359.00. Humboldt State’s women’s soccer team finished was the top women’s team in NCAA Division II with their 2,385 community service hours.
“Our student-athletes do an incredible job of giving back to the community. As a department we strive to be servant leaders and that starts at home, here, giving back to the Humboldt community which supports us throughout the season,” said Humboldt State University Director of Athletics and Recreation Sports Jane Teixeira. “This community is such a big part of what makes our University and Athletic Department thrive and it is vital that we do what we can to give back in any way possible.”
The Lumberjacks participated in a variety of volunteer activities this past academic year including sports clinics for the Humboldt County community, Pacific Union Fall Carnival, Samoa Beach Clean-up, House painting in the county, Halloween on the Plaza in downtown Arcata, Recreation Fall Carnival and the Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service.
Besides women’s soccer, four other Lumberjack intercollegiate athletic teams finished in the top ten in their respective sports in community service hours. The men’s soccer team finished second, women’s volleyball team third, softball team fifth and the women’s rowing team sixth.
