Lumberjacks’ Marco Silveira Named Two-Time CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week

As announced this afternoon by the office of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Humboldt State men’s soccer player Marco Silveira was named the CCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 11-17.  This is the second time that Silveira has earned this honor this season with the first being the week of August 30-September 5.

 Silveira scored a goal and had three assists in the Lumberjacks’ 6-1 win over Cal State East Bay this past Sunday afternoon at College Creek Field.  The Salvador, Brazil, native assisted on HSU’s first goal of the match in the 17th minute off a ball to Daniel Adeyeye.  He scored his sixth goal of the season in the 19th minute off a long ball from goalkeeper Adrian Gallardo.  This proved to be Silveira’s fourth game-winning goal of the season.  Three minutes into the second half, Silveira assisted on Devin Hauenstein’s header to give the ‘Jacks a 4-0 lead.  Silveira’s final assist came in the 73rd minute on a ball to Edgar Castaneda for the Lumberjacks’ fifth goal of the match.

 For the season, Silveira has scored a team leading six goals while assisting on a team high ten goals for 22 points, which also lead the ‘Jacks.  He is currently first in the CCAA in assists and game-winning goals while he is tied for second in points and tied for fifth in goals scored.  In the most recent NCAA Division II Statistical report, Silveira is third in total assists and fourth in assists per game and game-winning goals.

 He is currently second on HSU’s all-time career assists lists with 24.  Kevin Wiese holds the career record with 30.  Silveira is just two goals from moving into tenth on the career goals list.  The senior forward has scored 14 goals during his career in the Green and Gold.  On the single season assists’ list, he is fourth with ten.  He is just two moving into third and four from moving into first.

 Marco Silveira is second on HSU’s all-time career assists list with 24.  Kevin Wiese holds the career record with 30.  He is also two goals from moving into tenth place on the career goals list.  Silveira has scored 14 goals during his career in the Green and Gold.  He is fourth on the single season assists list with ten  The senior forward is two from moving into third and four from first.  Adrian Gallardo’s six shutouts is tied for second on the Lumberjacks’ single season shutouts.  Scott Power recorded eight in 1989 to hold the single season record at HSU.

 As a team, the Lumberjacks are 8-2-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the CCAA which places them in sixth place in the CCAA.  The top six teams at the end of the regular season on November 4 will receive a bid to the CCAA Soccer Championships. 

 The ‘Jacks will return to the pitch this Friday, October 22 at 3pm when they host Sonoma State.  HSU will be home for the final time this regular season when the ‘Jacks host San Francisco State on Sunday, October 24 at 2pm.  Prior to the match, HSU will recognize its Class of 2020 and 2021 seniors including Silveira in a ceremony.
