January 25, 2022

ARCATA, Calif---  Humboldt Lumberjacks men’s rugby player Logan McDaniel was named to the All-Tournament Team at the All-Star National Shield Challenge that was held on January 15-16 at the Houston Sabercats’ AVEVA Stadium.

“Logan (McDaniel) was ready when called upon and stepped up big time for the All-Star Grizzlies,” said Humboldt men’s rugby head coach Greg Pargee.  “He was solid both on offense and defense all weekend.  Logan’s selection for the All-Star All Tournament First Team is a testament to his hard work and passion for rugby. I am excited for him to bring his experiences, leadership, and confidence back to Humboldt and infect his teammates here.”

McDaniel along with teammates Isaac Khelo and Dante Cappellano were on the Pacific Coast Grizzly All-Star Team. Adrian Magana was an alternate.

Both McDaniel and Khelo earned starting positions for the Final Championship match and were major cogs on the Grizzly Team.

The Pacific Grizzly Team went 4-2 during the tournament.  They started the weekend with a 10-7 loss to New England Red.  The Grizzly Team came back and won its next four matches (17-14 over Mid-Atlantic, 15-14 over Tri-State, 17-12 over New England White and 24-5 over Southeast).  New England defeated Pacific Coast 18-8 in the championship match.
