Lumberjack Women’s Soccer To Begin 2021 At Home

July 29, 2021

The Humboldt State Lumberjacks’ women’s soccer team, under the guidance of second-year head coach Grant Landy, will begin its 2021 season with two important West Region matches at College Creek Field on Labor Day weekend.  The Lumberjacks will host Dominican (Calif.) on September 3 and Hawai’i Hilo on September 5. These matches will be the first two of a 18-match schedule for the Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks went 2-1-2 during the 2021 spring season including going 1-0-1 against NCAA Division I foe Portland State University.

“This will be my first full fall season with the team so I am excited about continuing what we developed over the spring season,” Landy said.   “We were fortunate to have played some games last year and that really helped me identify strengths and weaknesses of the group.   By the end I think we had started to develop an identity, which we will continue to build in the pre-season this year.”

The program returns 19 players from last year and has added six new players.  Seniors Tana Eri, Poppy Cartledge, Claire Bareilles, Kendal Spencer and Mia Castaneda will be relied on to provide leadership and experience.  Eri was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team last year.

After opening their season at home, HSU will go on a four-match road trip beginning with two matches in Monmouth, Ore.  The ‘Jacks will take on Central Washington and Western Oregon on September 10 and 12 in Monmouth.  They will return to the State of California for two matches in the Bay Area on September 16 and 18 at Menlo College and Holy Names University respectively.  Humboldt State will host Chico State on September 25 in its final non-conference match of the regular season.

After their non-conference match against CCAA foe  Chico State, the Lumberjacks will host Cal State San Marcos and Cal State San Bernardino on October 1 and 3.  Humboldt State will go on the road for its next three matches beginning on October 8 at Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The road trip will continue on October 10 at Cal State Monterey Bay and end on October 14 at Stanislaus State.

HSU will return to College Creek for three matches beginning on October 17 with Cal State East Bay.  The ‘Jacks will finish off their home part of their schedule on October 22 and 24 against Sonoma State and San Francisco State.  Prior to their match on October 24, HSU will recognize its Seniors.

The ‘Jacks will end their regular season with three matches on the road.  This first part of this road trip will be on October 29 and 31 in Southern California.  HSU will face Cal Poly Pomona on October 29 and Cal State Los Angeles on October 31.  The regular season will end on November 4 at Chico State.

The six-team CCAA Women’s Soccer Championship will begin with the First Round on November 7 at the site of the higher seed.  The number one and number two seeded teams will get a first-round bye.  The semi-finals and final will be on the campus of Cal State Poly Pomona on November 12 and 14.  The winner of the CCAA Women’s Soccer Championship will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship.
