Lumberjack Athletics Announce Reorganization and Senior-Staff Promotions

November 16, 2021

Humboldt State University Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Campus Recreation Cooper Jones recently announced a departmental reorganization, several promotions and a new hire within Lumberjack Athletics.  The moves include multiple additions to the newly formulated Senior Staff, as well as sport administrator assignments.

Former HSU basketball letter-winner Kelly Kime has been promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations, and will assume the responsibilities of chief of staff for the Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation departments.  She will also add sport supervision of women’s basketball and women’s soccer to these expanded responsibilities.

In addition, HSU National Champion and Rowing letterwinner Amanda Nelson has been promoted to the

role of Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services. She will also take on the additional responsibilities of sport administrator for the Volleyball, Track & Field and Cross Country varsity programs while overseeing Title IX, Compliance and Academic Service units.

Jones also announced the promotion of Bridget Nichols to the Senior Staff.  Nichols will be responsible for the Campus Recreation unit, and her elevation into this leadership position within the department points directly to the elevated role of Campus Recreation at HSU.

“I am thrilled to announce these deserving promotions,” said Jones.  “These key leaders will allow for Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation to be well-positioned for the changing landscape of college athletics, as well as new opportunities on HSU’s campus and in our community.”

The Lumberjacks also announced the hiring of Josh Doody as Assistant Athletics Director for Financial Operations.  Doody comes to HSU with over two decades of experience in college athletics, including 15 years as an athletics director.  “The chance to add a colleague of Josh’s caliber to our senior staff was a testament to HSU and the culture we’re building here,” stated Jones.  “Josh is a well-rounded, highly-respected practitioner who will be a key part of our growth and future success.  And, the fact that he’s an alum made his appointment to this important role even more special.”

Rounding out the Senior Staff will be Joe Danahey, who is the Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations.  Danahey will become the primary sports administrator for men’s soccer and softball for the Lumberjacks.

“In just 100 days at HSU I have seen each of these leaders rise to a new level of expectations – an expectation that we are student-centric in both our words and our actions,” stated Jones.  “We have clearly defined our vision and purpose as a department, and we are excited to see the results that will follow.  The Lumberjacks got immensely better today!”

The staff promotions and reorganization took effect November 15, 2021.
