Lisa Bond-Maupin to Continue as Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Assistant to the President

Lisa Bond-Maupin’s temporary appointment has been extended to continue leading critical priorities and projects for the institution.

In particular, Bond-Maupin will join Provost Jenn Capps in leading the self-study on HSU being designated the state’s third polytechnic, she will continue to co-lead campus strategic planning, and will represent the President in our WSCUC preparation and follow up efforts. She will also continue with her leadership role in enhancing tribal relationships with the University, co-lead our strategic partnership with the College of the Redwoods, and serve as the President’s liaison in campus and community efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 “I can’t thank Dr. Bond-Maupin enough for her leadership, and I know her efforts are having an important impact across campus,” said HSU President Tom Jackson, Jr. “She is compassionate, thoughtful, and resourceful. Perhaps most importantly, she is driven by a deep concern for our students. I believe she is at her very best when there are issues or decision-points that have a direct impact on our students’ experience.”

 Rosamel Benavides-Garb will continue to serve as Interim Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences this Academic Year. The College has 18 undergraduate and 4 graduate programs, and offers 85 percent of the general education curricula at HSU.

 “Dr. Benavides-Garb is doing an excellent job in this role,” said President Jackson. “I admire his passion for the mission and his deep questioning of important issues, and I look forward to seeing the results of his vision and leadership in the College.”

 Lisa Bond-Maupin came to HSU in 2017 to serve as Professor and Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. During 2020, she served is Interim Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs before taking on her current role as Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Assistant to the President.

Rosamel Benavides-Garb is a long-time faculty leader and Department Chair at HSU. He previously served as Associate Dean before being named Interim Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences in January 2020.
