Interim Vice President for Student Affairs to Continue Serving at HSU for 2019-20

December 7, 2018

To the University community:

I am pleased to share the news that Dr. Wayne Brumfield, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, has agreed to continue serving at Humboldt State University for the 2019-20 academic year.  He joined us in August 2017, as a consultant from The Registry, with strong experience from multiple universities in student life, student activities, and campus climate.

I originally asked Dr. Brumfield to continue for a second year (2018-19) to continue some of the initiatives he had begun, with the goal of undertaking a search during the current academic year.  However, given my retirement next summer, I believe that the search should begin with the arrival of the next president, so that now the search for a Vice President for Student Affairs will begin next summer under the direction of the next president.  Dr. Brumfield will assist in that process, helping to develop a deep, strong, and diverse pool of applicants.

Since he joined us here at HSU, Dr. Brumfield has been engaged in strengthening student life and community relations, expanding support for student success, creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all students, navigating critical budget decisions, providing advice and insights on a wide variety of topics, and, of course, sharing his cooking secrets from Louisiana!

With very best wishes,

Lisa A. Rossbacher, Ph.D.
President
Humboldt State University
