Important Update: Regional Airport Closed Aug. 14-25

May 5, 2023

The California Redwood Coast—Humboldt County Airport (ACV), aka the Arcata/Eureka Airport in McKinleyville, will be fully closed for runway improvements for 12 days from Monday, August 14 to Friday, August 25. Airlines will not have scheduled arrivals or departures during this time.

Classes begin on Monday, August 21. Because this closure occurs at the beginning of the Fall 2023 semester when many arrive on campus, the University encourages all students and families to plan ahead and find alternative transportation to and from Arcata. The University’s Enrollment Management and Housing teams are working to coordinate alternative transportation options for students and will communicate those options directly with students. Faculty and staff should also be prepared to find different travel arrangements during this time.

Possible alternatives include scheduling flights to and from nearby airports such as the Redding Regional Airport (RDD), Sonoma County Airport (STS), Rogue Valley International – Medford Airport (MFR) and renting a car, or traveling by car or bus (please note there are no train services to Arcata). For more information about bus services and traveling to campus, please visit Cal Poly Humboldt’s trip planning website

The closures are part of the multi-phase Runway Rehabilitation and Electrical Improvement Project. The Project is funded in part by a $13 million Airport Improvement Program grant through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Act grant funding, according to Humboldt County Aviation. Improvements include upgrades to electrical and lighting infrastructure, and pavement rehabilitation. All phases of the project are expected to be complete by December 15.
