Humboldt State Women’s Soccer Team Travels to Portland for Final Two Games of Spring
Humboldt State’s women’s soccer team will return to the pitch on April 29 and May 1
for two matches against the NCAA Division I Portland State Vikings. Game times are 1:30pm on
Thursday, April 29 and 11am on Saturday, May 1. Both matches will take place at Stott Field on the
campus of Portland State University.
“We are excited to get back to playing games after a couple weeks off,” Head Coach Grant Landy said.
“This will be an important two games as we continue to grow and develop as a team. We have a lot of
players from the Vancouver and Portland area so that will be fun for them and for me. I have a lot of
fond memories from my time there.”
Prior to Humboldt, Landy coached 23 years at Concordia University in Portland before the school closed
its doors after the spring semester in 2020. He amassed a 389-86-36 (.796) record while guiding his
team to NCAA Division II national tournament appearances in 2017 and 2018. In 2013, Landy led his
team to the NAIA national championship.
There will be no live streaming of the two matches and there will be no fan entry into the facility. For

Humboldt State is coming off a 4-1 loss to Western Oregon on April 11 in Medford, Ore. Kendall Spencer
connected on the Lumberjacks goal on a penalty kick. Prior to that match, HSU went 1-0-1 in its first two
matches a couple of weeks ago in the Bay Area. The Lumberjacks defeated then No. 16 Dominican
University 1-0 on March 27 in San Rafael when Brooke Weese scored on a header on a cross from Baylee
Groom in the 76 th minute. The next day in Santa Rosa, Humboldt State played to a 2-2 tie with Menlo
College at Sonoma Academy. Groom and Weese each scored the Lumberjack’s two goals while Mia
Castaneda and Erin Mohr each recorded assists.
The Lumberjacks started the return to participation process in Fall 2020 and continue this Spring
following County Public Health, NCAA, and University protocols including testing on a regular and
consistent basis. Protocols include
● Consultation with Humboldt County Public Health officials
● Frequent testing — teams in competition will be tested three times a week
● Small group practices
● Wearing face coverings on campus and on the road
● Travel-related quarantines
Each team will be on the road for multiple games over the course of one to three weeks. None of the
games are part of regular conference competition, which is not occurring this year.
