Humboldt State Women’s Soccer Team Returns to the Road for Two More Games

April 8, 2021

Humboldt State’s women’s soccer team will return to the pitch this coming weekend for a pair of matches in Northern California and Southern Oregon.  The Lumberjacks will travel to Rocklin this Friday, April 9 for a 4:30pm game with William Jessup University.  They will finish off the weekend with a 2:00 pm game on Sunday, April 11 against Western Oregon University at the Medford Sports Complex in Medford, Oregon.

“We are excited to get back on the field together this weekend,”  Head Coach Grant Landy said.  “We want to continue to progress in our mentality as we approach competition as well as establish how we want to play both in defending and attacking.  These games will offer us a chance to keep this process moving forward.”

HSU went 1-0-1 in its first two matches a couple of weeks ago in the Bay Area.  The Lumberjacks defeated then No. 16 Dominican University 1-0 on March 27 in San Rafael when Brooke Weese scored on a header on a cross from Baylee Groom in the 76th minute.  The next day in Santa Rosa, Humboldt State played to a 2-2 tie with Menlo College at Sonoma Academy.  Groom and Weese each scored the Lumberjack’s two goals while Mia Castaneda and Erin Mohr each recorded assists.

Live streaming will be available on https://jessupathletics.com/ for Friday’s match.  For Sunday’s match versus Western Oregon, there will be no live stream available. Results will be posted later that day at www.hsujacks.com.

For both games, fans will be allowed to attend under social distancing and masking guidelines.  For Sunday’s game in Medford, a limited number of fans will be allowed in the stadium.

The Lumberjacks started the return to participation process in Fall 2020 and continue this Spring following County Public Health, NCAA, and University protocols including testing on a regular and consistent basis. Protocols include

●      Consultation with Humboldt County Public Health officials

●      Frequent testing — teams in competition will be tested three times a week

●      Small group practices

●      Wearing face coverings on campus and on the road

●      Travel-related quarantines

Each team will be on the road for multiple games over the course of one to three weeks. None of the games are part of regular conference competition, which is not occurring this year.
