Humboldt State Women’s Basketball Announces the Signing of Local Standout

June 4, 2021

Humboldt State head women’s basketball coach Michelle Bento-Jackson has announced the signing of Del Norte High School standout Jadence Clifton to a National Letter of Intent.  The Crescent City, Calif., native will begin her collegiate career this Fall and returns to the place where she began her basketball career at the Lumberjack basketball camps.

"We are ecstatic about the addition of Jadence,” said Coach Bento-Jackson. “Jadence is a talented gym rat who is a competitor and who has a skill set which fits in perfectly with our style of play.  She is a point guard who loves to push the pace, has great shooting ability and also a terrific ability to create for her teammates.  In addition, Jadence really loves the game of basketball and is a winner. She truly checks all the boxes in what we look for in our program.  She is a special young lady both on and off the court and the Humboldt community will fall in love with her as a person and as a player. Jadence participated in Humboldt State basketball camps as a youngster and now to be receiving a basketball scholarship to play for our women's basketball program is a great story."

The daughter of Justin Clifton and Kimberly Bommelyn was a two-time First Team All-Humboldt Del Norte High School League honoree.  This season, Clifton is averaging 22.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 8.5 steals per game.  This season, she became Del Norte High School’s All-Time Leading Scorer.

The 2021 McDonald’s All-American nominee averaged 24.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game during the 2019-20 season.  Clifton posted a double-double in each of Del Norte’s eight league games.  She was the Del Norte High School League Co-Most Valuable Player.

"I'm absolutely thrilled with my decision to attend Humboldt State and play for Coach Bento this upcoming season,” said Jadence Clifton.  “Ultimately, this was the best decision in regards to both basketball and my education.  I can't wait to play ball at HSU surrounded by what has always felt like home and have all the continued support of my family, friends, and community.  Go Jacks!"

During the 2018-19 season, the 5-7 guard helped lead the Warriors to a 24-4 season including an undefeated 8-0 record in the H-DNL.  The Warriors’ season culminated with a Dick Niclai Tournament championship, a North Section Championship game appearance and the school’s first ever state playoff appearance.

Besides her honors on the court, Clifton is a two-time member of the Del Norte High School’s Honor Roll.
