Humboldt State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Raises $700 in Food Drive

March 16, 2021

Humboldt State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual Canned Food Good Drive last week with all proceeds going to the campus’ Oh SNAP (Student Food Program).  The Lumberjacks raised $702.00 last week which equates to 1404 cans (two cans for every dollar raised).

“I'm so grateful to everyone who helped towards our goal of providing for Oh SNAP to ensure they can continue to support our campus and local community,” said Humboldt State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Co-President Elliott Portillo.  “Thank you to all those who chipped in to make this one of the most successful fundraisers and food drives SAAC has put on in years!”

The 1404 cans are 951 more than what HSU’s SAAC’s 453 cans gathered during the 2019-20 Canned Food Good Drive.  This food drive is held in conjunction with the annual drive held by the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The conference-wide food drive, which begin in 2011, was designed to raise awareness to the plight of those who face hunger and food insecurity in communities surrounding the conference’s member institutions.
